I Need A Fix Because I'm Going Down

Who: Wynonna Earp and Doc Holliday
Where: Alexandria
When: During the Event
Rating: PG-13 mostly, will change if it does
Summary: killing zombies and flirting about it, probably
The Story:

Thank god she has something to kill.

That probably isn't the attitude most people are having to the event. It's probably not the right attitude to have about a zombie apolocaplyse, but Wynonna sometimes gets what Doc once explained to her as the Itch, the urge to look down the barrel of Peacemaker and end a life, any life. Not that she would ever actually take that out on someone who didn't deserve it but needless to say she's glad for the zombies to kill.

You know, if she could get a shot in.

Doc has been mowing them down right and left, so fast that she can't get a shot in half the time.

"You know a gentleman leaves something for the lady to kill too."

Yes, that's exactly what gentlemen do, Wynonna.

"You, my dear, are from the proper definition of a lady." He fires a shot that sails right over her shoulder to take down a zombie that had managed to circle around them. "But I never was one for staying inside the fence. They're all yours."

The bow is unnecessary, but he does it anyway, more so in jest than in mocking.

"Less talkin', more shootin'," Doc issues from behind her.

His guns are resting at his sides now, still held loosely in his hands. He's letting her have her misguided fun now, but he's not beyond calling it short should the undead get closer than they should.

There's something horribly wrong about how much he's enjoying this. A situation like this shouldn't be enjoyable, yet he's been itching for something to put a through bullets through himself. Whether that's out of sheer frustration with the predicament he and Wynonna have been placed in or some sort of restless need to engage in a fight, he can't say. (And quite frankly, doesn't care.) All he knows is that this is a release — not just for her, but for him as well. This situation is bleak, even if it's temporary. And they're going to milk it for all it's worth.

How screwed up is that?

A few spill out from behind some trees to her right. Doc doesn't hesitate, doesn't wait for her to see them herself. He takes them out in four precise, consecutive shots.

Better it be nameless zombies than people they can put names and faces to. (Alas, that will likely come later...) The last thing she needs is to put another friendly face down so soon after having to shoot her sister.

"Unfair?" Doc shoots one to her left, then to her right. "I have years of experience under my belt. Experience that you only have by way of that gun in your hand. Not all of us get so lucky as to be gifted with the skills of the long dead greats."
wildwest: (✒ to hell with the red wine)

[personal profile] wildwest 2017-07-15 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, well," to shake things up a bit, Doc drops his gun back into its holsters and draws out his knife, hurling it into the head of one of the zombies, "he could have let you and yours go without. Then where would the heirs be?"

Dead. Very dead. It would have been an endless cycle of death and mayhem, the revenants running amok without fear of consequence. An heir had to be good, and get good quick. Without the ability to point and shoot like his former best friend, they would have been left struggling to survive even more than they already were.

It's not until the third day that Doc catches a glimpse of her again. He wastes no time in turning towards her, having spent the past day or so berating himself for letting her walk away like that. Giving her an open out, knowing fully that she would likely take her chances with it? Had been dumb. Supremely dumb. Perhaps the most idiotic decision he's made since he was in cohorts with Bobo. Wynonna needs rules, structure, guidelines. She needs to be told that she has to stick close, otherwise she'll walk off without a better reason to stay put. Doc knows this, and yet...

He grabs her by the arm when he finally reaches her, spinning her around to face him. She's covered in blood, among other things, and Doc hurriedly beings to run his hands along every inch of exposed skin.

This is the one and only time he would not object to a decontamination shower; scalding temperatures, turnip-smelling water and all.

"A recent development," he says, grimacing at the red and purple bruise that blossomed across his left forearm. "Seems no one is as hardy as they should be right now."

[personal profile] wildwest 2017-07-16 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
Too late. He already did that when he decided it was a good idea to give her an open out in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. There's a decent-sized list of people who would never forgive him if that foolhardy decision of his had led to Wynonna being maimed by these creatures, even temporarily. Waverly Earp would've had his hide.

"Same goes for you, seein' as you were never working with my unfair advantages in the first place." It's said sternly, but his voice dips into softer tones as he pushes her hair back to better inspect her neck. "Didn't get bit?"
wildwest: (✒ i hang my head and cry)

[personal profile] wildwest 2017-07-16 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
In any other situation, Doc would've seized her wrists and stopped her motions, taken a healthy step back and reminded her of the parameters he's already put into place. But he gets it. She has to be sure, and so he allows her to inspect him, to see with her own eyes that he hasn't been bitten or scratched, that he's free from the infection (or whatever it may be) that turns good people into mindless, hunger-driven animals.

"But you would have." It's not a question. "And you will if it comes down to that."

Night comes, and so does the gruesome day that follows it. Full of bodies, some nameless, others... unfortunately recognizable. It's not until the aftermath has been endured does everything go back to normal — or as 'normal' as things get in Wonderland. As if nothing even happened.

Doc wakes up by himself on the floor of his room, leaning against the foot of his bed. It's a touch disorienting at first, to realize he's back here and that he's safe (for all that's worth — ""safe"" is more like it), but he doesn't have time to bask in that small comfort, or even to notice that he's no longer covered in the filth he was back in Alexandria.

Wynonna's not with him. And that's cause for alarm. He remembers telling her about how she needed to prepare for herself, how he wouldn't always be here to help her out with that, to cover her ass. Panic swells within him. If he jinxed himself by saying that — or something else, god forbid, had happened to her—

He's on his feet and out the door of his room without a second thought, banging a fist on hers next door. "Wynonna!"

Doc lets out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding when the door opens to reveal Wynonna standing there — unsoiled, uninjured, and most importantly: alive.

"We have got to work on that poker face of yours."

Good thing the one person who can always see through his brand of bullshit isn't here. Though to tell the truth, he wouldn't mind passing some of these duties he's inherited in her absence back to Waverly. Should would make co-existing here a hell of a lot easier, less messier.

He steps inside and is a touch surprised to find himself more or less standing in her bedroom at the homestead. Doc's been in his room plenty of times before, and aside from the added Wonderland amenities, it's pretty much the same room. Except the rest of her house doesn't lie beyond that door and there's a bar next door.

"People in your day and age don't really need to be. Not unless they are doing so deliberately."

Cards. He's referring to cards, for the record. (Someone should tell him about professional poker players and introduce him to late night poker games on television. Maybe then he'd actually watch TV for once.)

Waverly would certainly have a thing or two to say about that elephant in the room, that's for sure.

"Celebrity Poker?" Forgive the face he makes, Wynonna. He's picturing a bunch of politicians and playwrights.
