The Story:
Orlais' current ruler, Lacie, has invited anyone of name, fame, and influence to The Winter Palace for three days of extravagant festivities surrounding the peace talks between her and Tillie, whose grasp for the throne has plunged beautiful Orlais into a dreadful civil war. Unbeknownst to both a third player, Elsie, has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to obtain her own share of power over the land.

Get ready for three days of fancy food, fine drink, good music, good entertainment, and just a little bit of murder, maybe? Your character has secured an invitation, and will join the illustrious crowd, become privy to the latest scandals and gossip, and observe as the struggle for Orlais' throne reaches its final chapter.

[ As a member of a noble family in support of Lacie, Ange does know Mikan. Not personally - she's not enough of an active participant in the game to have gotten hurt that badly before - but she's probably had family members who have been helped by her before. It's inevitable with the way things always go.

And with Mikan looking all wallflowery in the ballroom, it's like she's just waiting there to be picked on by some Tillie follower. So fine, fine, Ange will be a good person for once and go over to her to make sure that doesn't happen. ]

You shouldn't stand around by yourself like that. You never know when someone here decides you're easy prey, you know.

L-Lady Ange!

[Mikan is quick to curtsy, wanting to show her respect.]

I... um... I-I figured I should be here, in case something happens...

[something = stabbing, poison, murder, what have you.]

Well.. At least you have good foresight. [ She glances over at the crowd of people dancing. She doubts most of them are as carefree right now as they might seem.. ]

The peace talks are supposedly going on, but I doubt that means the people around are going to be very peaceful. Especially those who won't agree with the end result.

[naughty_nurse]

[She nods slowly in agreement.]

There will always be people who refuse to change... I must always be ready, even if it makes me unhappy.

[entreats]

[ Yeah, Ange can't really disagree on that one.. The big game isn't really fun for anyone when it means you can just get killed at any time. But it's like there's a choice but to participate in some way.

There's a small pause, but then she slowly says-- ]

You know that your work is appreciated by a lot of people, right? [ Look, compliments are still difficult for Ange, even an alternate version of her. But she's at least trying. ]

[naughty_nurse]

[Now that catches her off guard. She blushes deeply.]

H-Huh?! ... Oh, I.. th-thank you, Lady Ange!

[entreats]

[ She clicks her tongue. ]

You don't have to thank me. I'm just pointing out a fact. [ Even though she definitely went out of her way to say that, but no Ange could just plainly admit to that ever. ] A lot of people would have been dead without your help.

[naughty_nurse]

[She's still giddy to hear it.]

Mmm... I-I'm happy to help... it makes me feel useful.

We all have our roles to play.

[ Even though Mikan's is most definitely a little more vital than most. Not like Ange has ever gone out of her way to help someone like Mikan has other than her direct family. ]

Just keep an eye out during these few days. If you see anything suspicious, make sure to find someone who's on the same side as us. Strength in numbers, right?

[ Ange moves a little closer to Mikan - maybe to make it seem even more like they're just casually talking instead of Ange here surveying the whole space around them. She nudges with her head in the direction of one of the people in the Inquisition uniform. ]

The ones wearing that definitely are suspicious. I don't know what they're doing here, and as far as I know, it seems no one truly knows their intentions. You can't trust them.

[She nods a little in understanding, but...]

... Even so... if they are injured, I must help them.

Even if you're putting yourself at risk?

[ You're too good for this cruel world, Mikan.. Which might not necessarily be a good thing in this case. ]

[naughty_nurse]

... It is a nurse's duty. Our patient always comes before us.

[so apparently mikan is too good for ANY world, at this point]

Well.. I'll see what I can do.

[ Purposefully left vague, since no Ange in no world ever would want to actually directly talk about doing something nice for someone else. But she's totally going to try and get one of her noble family's guards to keep an eye out for danger around Mikan during these festivities. ]

[She smiles, happy.]

... You're very kind.

[ Mikan, don't do that!! Your cute power is too strong for Ange no matter the world.. ]

I'm just trying to make sure we don't lose someone useful. [ Yes..... just that.. Don't misunderstand. ]

[naughty_nurse]

... I'm sure you're very useful too.

[entreats]

[ That makes her pause for a moment, if not just since Ange didn't expect to suddenly hear that. There's a hint of something surprised in her expression. ]

Me? Well, I wouldn't necessarily call myself useless, but I'm not exactly all that important. That suits me fine though, it means less people are out to kill me.
