[He smirks a little. He likes her already.]
I had gathered that much. [He extends a hand.] Richard Saint. Someone's cousin or nephew or what ha-have you.
no subject
Ooh, the illustrious someone. Very esteemed.
[It's like a parody of the conversations she's expected to have, but this is much more fun.]
So how'd you net an invite to this thing if you don't hold yourself in regard? Or did they just send one to everyone hoping they'd lock up all Orlesian politics for a few days?
no subject
[He takes a drink.]
Certainly, getting all of us in one place was important, e-especially if one of these idiots decides to attempt a coup. But mostly it was to keep up appearances. On their end and mine. It would be noticed if I was i-i-intentionally excluded, and likewise, if I simply didn't show up, and Maker knows I didn't want to...then I'm sure Lacie would see it as an insult. Th-The last thing I need is someone assuming I give a shit about this civil war.
no subject
[Thanks, she hates it!]
I dunno, what are they gonna do, arrest all of us who don't instantly swear our allegiance or something? Ugh, now that I say it, it's more plausible. Just preemptively throw me in jail. At least then I'd know where I stand. No more of this... everything.
no subject
[That's some bitter sarcasm right there.]
You joke, but knowing these people, I w-wouldn't be surprised if they tried. Especially Lacie, and especially since you're a Chevalier.
no subject
Okay, so who's she gonna get to come get me? Her personal guard that went through basic and has been standing in a palace for years after that? I'm shaking in my boots.
[But Shepard grins, leaning on the hilt of her sword where it's strapped in its holster on her hip.]
Maybe that's why she's showing me a good time. She wants my skill without wanting to work for it.
no subject
[Lacie is probably fucked either way. He kind of doubts the Inquisition would take sides. This civil war doesn't concern then any more than it concerns Richard.]
She'd call it a show of good faith, but having everyone in one place, especially enemies, is a good way to gauge their utility.
no subject
[But jokes on Lacie, Shepard doesn't want to be doing ANY of this.]
Unless Lacie wants to eliminate this whole backstabbing spiel and just ask me for my help, she's not gonna find much favor. I don't even have to hide my opinion on that. It's pretty fucking obvious if you talk to me even once.
no subject
[He says it with tired exasperation. This isn't the first Game-related party he's been to, it's just the longest and the most complex. So annoying.]
It's fairly obvious for m-most people, and I suppose that's part of the problem. You can't tell who's support or lack there-of is genuine or not. I make no secret about how little I care for all of this, but what if I'm lying? Perhaps I am supporting one of them in secret. These people d-don't think right.
no subject
Yup. Who knows who's sending who money while publicly shaming them. Or strategically showing up not to get blown up. Tired of it.
[Unlike most of her rank, she didn't grow up nobility, meaning this is mostly her first experience with this whole ordeal- not this party, but the last year or two of this experience. It's been one she'd really like to never do again, but if she wants to keep her job, she'll have to. Besides, very few know she wasn't nobility to start- best not to go tossing that one around.]
no subject
[He's getting the fuck outta Dodge.]
no subject
Leaving the country? Got friends somewhere else? I hear Ferelden isn't doing much better about now.
[Even if she's kind of been thinking about it lately, too.]
no subject
[He probably shouldn't be so flippant about his plans but fuck it, he doesn't give a shit.]
no subject
Not much of a plan, then. Shouldn't be too hard, if you have the funds. I guess the trick is what you'll be doing, or what you're planning on doing when you get there.
no subject
no subject
Well, I'll drink to that.
[She didn't even grow up in this place and she's done. It's practically only been a year.]
Write me back sometime if you find something good. Inquisition's been trying to court me all night though, so who knows.
no subject
Will do. Though th-the best advice I can give someone as young as you is this--get out while you still can. Go on adventures. Die fighting a d-dragon. At least it's a story.
no subject
Oh, I think I'm fulfilling that much. Seen my share of combat. No dragon yet, though. I'll have to put that one on the bucket list.
