god help me
[It's everything she has not to keep from laughing at this point.]
Don't think you can say a few sweet words and get what you want, Dan. You want a challenge, you're gonna get a challenge.
there are no gods here
Good.
[It's with the lightest touch that he brushes a wisp of hair off her face, his own returning challenge alight in his eyes. Dan, is it? How familiar.]
I'd be disappointed if I didn't.
not even one
Good. If I wanted to chase a doormat I'd work my way up to the rulers of Orlais.
[Shepard pls ur gonna get arrested.]
But if you're even a little serious, we can find somewhere quiet. To talk about specifics.
no subject
[Maker, but doesn't he love her that way? Danyael wouldn't change this woman for anything - she's as fierce with words as she is on the field of battle, and there's a certain thrill of danger in this conversation alone.]
Somewhere quiet? [His eyebrows raise almost imperceptibly.] If you were anyone else, I might have some reservations about that request.
no subject
[I mean, those are applicable words coming from the person who openly brought a sword to this experience.]
Or do you think I've been running the long con? Truly, I'm the greatest player of the Game ever. With my feminine wiles and our years of service. All for one death. Sure.
no subject
[He grins at her again, then laughs as she continues. Maker, but it's good to be able to rely on at least one person here to say what they really think.]
And I don't think anyone wants me dead that badly. I feel like I might have noticed.
no subject
Everyone here wants someone dead. I just think few are fool enough to draw open combat with renowned soldiers if they actually want to win. Most of these people don't even know how to hold a sword, much less come at us with killing intent and hope to survive.
no subject
[And everyone wants to be invited to the next one. That's what slow-acting poison is for.
But they're getting distracted, and still standing so close that he'd almost swear he can hear her heartbeat through that armour.] Besides, prefer to keep my mind on things that aren't who I'd like to slide a dagger under the ribs of.
no subject
[Because good luck with getting ignored by assassins if they think you're a problem. She's got her eyes open for exactly that reason. But now, back to the part of this conversation she cares about more.]
Well, I think that can be arranged.
[Shepard grins, catlike.]
C'mon. Let's get off the main floor.
no subject
[He grins in return, a near-roguish half-smile as he playfully offers his arm to her. Maker, he doesn't think she'll take it, but it's meant as more of a taunt in any case.]
The lady's choice.
no subject
Instead, she takes his hand. That feels right.]
Come on. I know just the place.
no subject
Danyael knows why he draws glances as they walk across the room, and it's as much for his bare face as the company he's keeping. People like him can be a source of scandal and intrigue both, and it's only that delicate balance that keeps him from being poisoned.]
Surely you haven't done this before? [He's grinning at her, still.]
no subject
I mean, not here.
[She winks.]
But shouldn't every good soldier know multiple places to access? A quiet room to recoup? I did my scouting.
no subject
[As if he couldn't have found them at least three places to go where they couldn't be found, but letting her lead this is far more fun. Watching the scandalised expressions of the people she pushes through is more than enough to keep him entertained.
People like them should never really be invited to places like this, and yet, the mistake keeps being made.]
I always knew I was doing the right thing, throwing my lot in with you.
no subject
Before long, they're off the main floor, her eyes carefully watching as they slip down a badly lit hall.]
Course you did. And I wouldn't pick anyone else to watch my back. Speaking of, make sure we're not being followed. I'm really not interested in an ambush right now.
no subject
[There are always ways to conceal yourself in the Winter Palace. Even a sparse corridor might be home to several hiding places. Oh, Orlais. Never change.]
Shout if I need you.
no subject
[But they'll press on together, off to catch a moment alone for as long as they care to be missing. Take that, fancy ball. They'll do whatever the hell they want.]
