Summary:

• This log is intended to give everybody a good overview of where in Wonderland which ghosts can be found. It can be used as a reference for other posts, or to thread encounters too short to warrant their own entry.

The Story:

And so it begins.

Throughout the mansion faded images will flicker in and out – ghosts of Wonderland's future. These ghosts can be of anyone, from any point in the next five years. They will play on repeat, as Wonderland's Chess Piece Ghosts have in the past, and they will offer brief glimpses into the future for anyone who witnesses them.

They cannot be stopped, and the images cannot be changed or altered. This isn't to say that the future can't eventually be changed, of course, but there is nothing that anyone can do over the course of this event that will change the contents of these imprints.

[Oh, you son of a—

Blake glares a little at the laugh, but he really brought it on himself by calling Greed in.

He huffs.]

Yeah, it's a problem. A big problem. Now help me sweep it under the rug.

[And then, as an afterthought:]

What the hell's goin' on with the snowmen? Tell me that, too.

[It's a ~request~, okay? Except without the please.]

[appealingavarice]

Bossy, bossy. [But Greed is far too amused to actually be annoyed by it.] There's one of these getting creative with the snow outside, and now I think I should specify that it's completely platonic. I dunno what to say about this one, other than congratulations...

[oversight]

Definitely don't say that...

[But he's got to admit, he's curious about what "getting creative with the snow" entails. He steps over to his one small window and peers out, but it's far too frosted to provide him any real view of the grounds.]

There's 'nother in the library. Been seein' 'em all over now.

[He gestures Greed over to the closet being very careful to avoid those ghosts, not just with his body, but also his eyes.

Not cool.]

Was thinkin' I'd get a— One of those door-things? [He waves his hands.] The screen? Folding screen? Anyway, thought coupla those'd hide whatever... this is.

[appealingavarice]

A screen would probably help, but I'm not sure what it would do about the, uh, sound effects. [Yeah, Greed's not anywhere near ready to stop smirking about this.] Did you seriously just ask me over for interior design advice, or what else is going on here? Some reason you're so opposed to the idea of getting laid?

[oversight]

It's not what's happenin', it's who it's happenin' with.

[An emphatic gesture to Crowley's ghost and then Blake's struggling to pull a large screen from his closet.]

Can you gimme a hand here?

I can. [But what's the magic word, Blake?]

Think I've seen this guy around. He just not your thing, or do I need to kick his ass or something?

[It's a completely reasonable question, as far as Greed's concerned. If this is about disliking him, rather than just not wanting him, it's entirely possible that there's been a problem that merits an ass-kicking.]

[oversight]

[He looks to Greed.]

Please.

[It's equal parts magic word and disbelief at the idea Greed's suggesting. Another tug from the closet and he's got the damn thing halfway out.]

Nothin's my thing. Decidedly not lookin' for things. 'Specially right now.

[appealingavarice]

[Was that so hard? Greed comes over to the closet and grabs the edge of one of the panels, taking some of the weight of the screen.]

What's especially about it? Are you the old-fashioned type who doesn't date outside your universe?

[A couple more good tugs and the first one's free of the closet. Blake upends the screen and begins spreading the panels to block off the ghosts from the rest of his room.]

Greed, I'm livin' in Wonderland. Got illusions in my room, a dragon livin' down the hall. This place likes tryin' to kill us on a regular basis.

Sounds like some bad timin' to me.

[appealingavarice]

[Greed's just going to hold his end of it steady, while giving Blake a skeptical look.] There is no timing, there's want or don't want. And I don't know what the dragon's got to do with anything unless you think it's gonna sit at the foot of the bed like a dog and make everything awkward.

[oversight]

What? No, that's not— [Augh, why are you so frustrating, Greed? Blake finishes spreading the screen and it's not perfect, but it'll do for most of the first half.

He steps back to the closet for the second and doen't bother to explain himself again.]

Point bein', this ain't exactly the kinda place you wanna lose your head. Gotta keep it in all this crap.

[So wise.]

[Funny, Greed could ask you the same question. He's never had much patience with excuses for not pursuing what you want.]

You're worried about getting caught with your pants down? With all the notice we get, that's about the only thing that's not going to happen.

[Still, he comes over to help with the other screen as soon as enough of it is out to justify two people.]

[The help is much appreciated, as evidenced by the tight smile on Blake's face. But he's still disturbed, still distressed, and the implications are what's getting to him.]

Just... worried. This feels diff'rent somehow, right? Feels like there's somethin' more, but then—

[His eyes follow those ghosts for just one telltale second before Blake's returning his attention squarely to Greed. This is pretty candid for him.]

Shit like this spooks me. Always been a bit freaked by that kinda manifest destiny bullshit. Not a superstitious man, but... yeah.

[I mean, have you seen Inception? All it takes is a seed of a notion to grown an idea. A decidedly bad idea, in this case.]

[appealingavarice]

[In fact he has not, but he does understand worrying about free will and shit like that and the penny visibly drops, wiping the last of the smarminess from Greed's expression.]

Call it more advance warning, then, if you don't want it. But if you do want something, I'm not listening to any crap about can't or shouldn't, all right?

[Blake's able to maneuver the second screen mostly into place, and in that time, he's silent as he spreads the panels and covers over the image that's been dogging him pretty hard. When he's finished, he looks at his friend and wipes the back of his hand across his face in sort of a half-unconscious motion.]

You think I look like a guy that's wantin' for much?

[Truthfully, there are a great many things he shouldn't and can't have and thus does not. And he knows that's important, even if Greed's saying it's not as important as the desire itself.]

Pretty sure Wonderland's got it all.

[So much ruefulness.]

[appealingavarice]

Yeah. [Seriously, was that a trick question?] You're breathing. Anyone who doesn't want something they don't have is either dead or lying.

[oversight]

[Blake takes a second to double check that the angles work for the areas of his bedroom where he spends the most time, but it's just so he doesn't have to think too hard about what Greed's saying.

Of course there are things he wants. Of course. He's not dead, but he's also not lying, and he's also not exactly fighting for what he wants.]

Yeah, okay. Just want the shit in this place to make sense. How's that?

[Good enough, right? Blake can openly want for something everyone in Wonderland wants.]

[appealingavarice]

[That may not be a lie, but it is at least bullshit- obfuscation, the prince supplies- and although Greed's starting from a good enough mood not to be particularly mad about it, he's still going to give Blake a Look.] How original.

[oversight]

[He stops what he's doing under the scrutiny and it's more than enough to get him sighing.]

What? Sorry that answer doesn't satisfy. What d'you want me to say here?

[appealingavarice]

Something I wouldn't hear from everyone else in the building. [If that was a rhetorical question... well, stop asking those about what Greed wants because he will have an answer. Right now, not knowing things bugs him.] You know there's nothing wrong with wanting something for yourself, right?

[oversight]

[The headache that's plaguing him seems to only be getting worse, and he finally sighs, shoulders slumping as he dips to sit on his bed.]

Yeah... [Damn you, Greed. Why do you have to be so consistent?] Yeah, know that.

[He's not sure what else to say, but...]

Ask me again in a week, yeah?

[appealingavarice]

[Because how he is is awesome, so why would he ever want to deviate from that? He slouches into a seat of his own, much less bothered now.] I can do that. Think about it, right? I know the hero types tend to have trouble with the concept.

Hero types, eh?

[He smirks and tries not to question the reasoning behind that, because it's already pretty clear, even if John doesn't necessarily feel all that much like a hero.]
