[OPEN, DINER CATCH-ALL] war, children, it's just a shot away
Who: EVERYONE (Yes, even Mirrors.)
Where: Eighth Floor Diner
When: 12/18
Rating: PG to PG-13
Summary: With the help of a Japanese schoolgirl, one man overcomes his neurosis and invites literally everyone to the diner.
The Story:
[Ned wasn't optimistic at the beginning - matter of fact, Ned never starts out thinking optimistically about anything, simply as a force of habit. Healthy paranoia, often misconstrued as abject pessimism, is what weighs heavily on the Pie Maker on a daily basis.
Adding actual monsters - ones different from him, who are much larger and fictional and hungry - to the mix only serves to amplify his anxiety.
It comes as something of a relief when Tohru recommends barricading the windows and stockpiling supplies, blankets, an assortment of foodstuffs and some First Aid, all of which are suggestions Ned undertakes with enthusiasm and the assistance of his diner-mates.
Now, with all the tables upturned strategically and the blinds drawn, he's almost elated they had the foresight to work things out early as a new transmission hits the public sphere.
He sends out another message almost immediately, this one Mansion-wide.]
IF ANYONE NEEDS A SAFE PLACE AND YOU CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE CLINIC OR LIBRARY
COME TO THE DINER ON THE EIGHTH FLOOR
WE HAVE FOOD* AND SHELTER IN THE EVENT OF CATASTROPHE
*But please be patient with that, there's only a couple of us working the kitchen.
[The Pie Maker, who loathes close proximity and sometimes gets claustrophobic, almost regrets hitting SEND.
Almost.]
NOTE: This is OPEN MINGLE CATCH-ALL, anyone and everyone can meet up with their friends/family/associates in the diner if they need a safe place to stay and don't want to leap willy-nilly after Her Highness into the Rabbit Holeit's ironic because the diner is called The Rabbit Hole.

Gabriel is telling Michael a short story to keep him occupied before setting him down once more and sending him off to go bother someone for some soda or something. He glances up at the other Gabe and shrugs.]
I don't know, it seems fairly quiet, you could do with relaxing a little longer. We've been at this for a while now. I'm sure we'd have sensed something if he'd broken through.
[He walks over to take a seat.]
What do you think of Ned's pies?

He could pass off his actions as having a soft spot for kids, but standing up for the humans? It felt.. good. Real. Futile in the end, sure. But it was a small echo of who he'd once been.]
Yeah, all seems quiet on the western front. So far the finger paint isn't making it to this side, so I think we're good for now.
Amazing stuff. Most of the time I just pull it out of thin air. How's the little guy? Michael? [As if there were any other children Gabriel was looking after.]

Instead he quietly disproves of saving any noncombatant humans Gabriel drags into the diner, feeling it's just a waste of time. He chooses to avoid many while he can but being friendly and approachable none-the-less. No one would be the wiser that he's quietly seething beneath all the friendly banter. After all, he's trying to appear LESS like a homicidal maniac to these mortals. Doesn't mean his hatred of them is gone completely though, there's only so far he can bury it. Still, he poses no threat, it would be counter-productive to his plan after all.
Still, if the other Gabe paid attention it was like Gabriel went from having a sort of buzzing noise and fog to being clear as a blue sky when around another angel. He may be smiling and seem genuinely calm and comfortable with speaking to a human, but talking to another angel, especially Michael, the Archangel seemed more real. It was easily missed by an untrained eye, especially if one wasn't looking for it.
He smiles, appreciative of the others concern about the little Michael.]
He's doing well. He seems content to stay by my side and keep to himself, as long a he's got something to occupy himself.
[But back to the pie.]
They're an incredible culinary masterpiece those pies. Nothing beats an authentic handmade baked confection. There's a quality to the fillings I can't quite put my finger on they're the most delicious thing I've had the honor of tasting. It's becoming an addiction.
[Perhaps even more so than sex or alcohol. Try not to keel over at that thought dear brother from another reality.]
Beats pulling it out of a pocket dimension any day.
