Movie Night!

Who: Anyone who wants to come watch Dinosaur movies
Where: The Movie Theater, Fourth Floor
When: Friday April 8th, 8pm
Rating: PG-13 for Raptors
Summary: Jurassic Park Movie Night
The Story:

As soon as people start showing up in the theater, a gentle song begins playing in the background. They will see the obvious screen on the back wall, but what's more, the seating is surrounded by prehistoric foliage. And in that foliage, stands a hand full of herbivorous dinosaurs. They seem to be grazing on the vegetation without a care in the world. If someone reaches out to touch, the holograms will destabilize as their hand passes right through them only to form back together once the disruption is gone. Even the vegetation seems to be a holographic projection along with the imitated grass floor and night sky. In the four corners of the room, set into the ceiling, are small domes that flicker ever so slightly as they cast and regulate the projections. The occasional T-Rex roar will echo in the background of the music, making the small herd of Parasaurolophus look up with a fright, then lower their heads back down.

The lights dim and the movie begins, the noise surrounding the holograms quiets as to not interrupt from the movies, only to return during the short breaks between films.

If you stray over to the refreshments table, thick brush and tall grass will conceal a deadly pair of raptors lurking. Appropriately themed snacks are set up on the table, including a few sweet treats courtesy of Darcy (including jello shots).

Occasionally, an unwary snacker will come to a fright as one or both of said hunters will pop out of the grass with a sharp, chittering cry. Lucky for the unfortunate victim, the jumpscare is all there is to worry about. The tricky little raptors will slink back down into the grass and lie in wait for their next victim. Don't spill your popcorn, its just an illusion.

You're welcome.

[ Ellie, like Arya, has been trying to squirrel away the snacks when people aren't looking. That's how she recognizes the sneaky look at Arya's adopted from her vantage point, and she approaches with a cheeky grin and snatches up (another) cupcake for herself. ]

Hard to stop, huh? [ Maybe she'll end up with cavities. Who cares? Wonderland magic can fix that. Probably. ] They're so good.

[Arya pulls her handful of cupcakes in close, her first instinct even after a good couple of months in this place being that they'd be stolen from her, that she needed to take what food she could while she was able to. Then rationality kicks in and she relaxes a little, plunging her finger into the frosting and licking it up.]

I've never tasted anything quite so sweet.

It's still good even after you've had stuff like this a hundred times. [ Next, Arya should be introduced to chocolate lava cake, like Ellie was. ] Never had a cupcake before?

[She shakes her head, brushing the crumbs from her trousers.] There's cakes, but they're not quite the same. They don't have this green stuff on top, for a start. But that's the best part!

The icing? [ Ellie laughs, grabbing another cupcake for herself. ] Yeah, definitely the best part. It wouldn't be as sweet without.

[ And she's definitely licking the icing off the top now. Whoops. ]

Icing? [She licks a little of it off cautiously, as though testing it, then frowns in confusion back at Ellie.] It doesn't taste like ice.

Nah, that's just what they call it. I don't know why, actually.

[ Something to look up in the library later, maybe? ]

It's not made of ice, or anything.

[Arya picks up the rest of the tray of cupcakes from the table and waves to Ellie to follow her, heading for an unoccupied corner and putting the cakes between them.] I'm Arya.

[ Ellie raises her eyebrows as Arya takes the cupcakes and moves them away, chuckling in appreciation. ]

I like the way you think.

[ And then she follows, stopping when the other girl does. ]

Ellie. [ Sticking out her hand to shake, she continues: ] How long've you been here?

[personal profile] needlebearer 2016-05-10 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[She shakes hands, hoping Ellie doesn't mind the icing all over her fingers as she does so.] About two months. At least, I think so.

[ She glances at her now sticky-sweet hand and snorts, amused, before wiping it off on the front of her jeans. Like a lady. ]

It's hard to remember sometimes. [ Ellie bobs her head in a sympathetic nod. ] I've been here almost a year. Crazy, right?
needlebearer: (❆ 006)

[personal profile] needlebearer 2016-05-12 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
A whole year? [Arya looks dismayed at the prospect.] I'm not sure I could stand to be cooped up here that long.
backpacking: (of recovering)

[personal profile] backpacking 2016-05-13 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, some of the older ones? They've been here years. Four or five, maybe.

[ And, yes, Ellie would feel cooped up if she were here for that long, certainly. ]

It's not like we can do anything about it, though. [ She mutters. ] We can't choose when we go back.
needlebearer: (❆ 008)

[personal profile] needlebearer 2016-05-16 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Or what we remember, when we do go back. [She agrees sadly, thinking how futile it would ultimately be to train and get stronger here, only to return to Westeros at any point to have all that progress erased.]
backpacking: (laying across from me)

[personal profile] backpacking 2016-05-18 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think we remember anything. [ She mutters, but she doesn't 'think,' she knows from her own experience. ] Once you go back there? That's it. It's like there's no Wonderland at all.

[ Maybe there isn't. Maybe it's just... something else, something much more transient. ]
needlebearer: (❆ 009)

[personal profile] needlebearer 2016-06-01 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That seems even worse than bringing us here at all. It's more unsettling to think of going back and just carrying on not knowing about any of this.
backpacking: (put out the fire on us)

[personal profile] backpacking 2016-06-04 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I went back. Forgot all about this. [ Ellie confirms, frowning. ] I didn't even... dream about it or anything, like something you sort-of remember from when you were a kid? Nothing.

[ Would it be better to have those little flashes and an inkling of something more, though? It could just as easily drive a person crazy. ]
