[OPEN MINGLE] Or perhaps in Slytherin
Who: Slytherin House! (And friends and visitors, of course!)
Where: Slytherin Common Room, Quidditch Pitch, various places around Hogwarts
When: Duration of the event
Rating: G (will edit as necessary)
Summary: Slytherin open log!
The Story:

The Slytherin common room was a long, low underground room with rough stone walls and ceiling, from which round, greenish lamps were hanging on chains. A fire was crackling under an elaborately carved mantelpiece ahead of them, and several Slytherins were silhouetted around it in carved chairs.
The common room has changed, somewhat, from its historical description, thanks to the decorative powers of one Mettaton. Though it still extends beneath the lake and thus retains a greenish, aquatic cast, it's much more brightly lit, its cold, damp atmosphere replaced with dazzling MTT-brand warmth. Even the giant squid, occasionally peering in as it does its rounds of the lake, seems just a shade more glamorous inside such a charming space.
Students - and a ghost or two - can be found nestled within its confines, plotting mischief around the fire, studiously doing their homework (as good students do), or perhaps trading Chocolate Frog trading cards. Though Slytherin is not especially well-known for its wide-open, trusting nature, Slytherins are known for not snitching on each other; if a guest or two were to creep in for a while, then odds are, nobody saw anything.

How refreshing it is to hear a Pureblood poke fun at tradition! Maybe there's hope for those old families yet.
[Many of the younger students assume that Mettaton is a Pureblood. Something about the way he holds himself, he thinks. But pride, sitting square and forthright on your shoulders, belongs to any background, even those raised on a muggle farm out of contact with most of the world.]
I must admit, I've been half-tempted to put up Permanent Sticking charms on all of my decorations to ensure that doesn't happen. But! That would be impractical, all things considered.
no subject
Ah, they are stubborn fellows, with no sense of humility. Honestly, how can they expect to get the most out of life when they actively limit themselves?
[Admittedly, he was only 90% sure he was a Pureblood. Grampa's refusal to talk about Dorian's father makes him suspicious at times.]
You're probably not the first person who has considered putting sticking charms on furniture. There must be a more practical way of discouraging the gloom.
no subject
[He takes in Dorian's looks a bit more, idly thinking to himself that he is lucky to be in a house with so many attractive people. That fact certainly brightens up his day as well as the Common Room.]
There must be! But, well, wizarding culture in general likes to disavow practicality. Though I'm not one much to talk.
[He really isn't- he's more often than not style over substance.]
no subject
[Yes, admire the youthful beauty. Dorian loves to be adored, though his companion was rather charming himself.]
[He chuckles] No, I think we're both guilty of being impractical. Just be glad it's an impracticality that improves things.
no subject
[He's a bit harsh towards Purebloods, but to be fair, they made his first two years at Hogwarts awful, so he feels he is justified in his assumptions.
Mettaton gives Dorian a warm smile in response.]
Yes, that is a small blessing. ...In fact, that gives me an idea.
[He sits up and gives Dorian an intense look.]
Why don't you take over keeping up the Common Room when I'm gone?
Wait till Dorian finds you after the event.
[Mettaton trusts HIM with the common room? OMG. He's incredibly flattered!]
Oh! I would be honored to, Mettaton!
... But I only have one more year after go. What would happen then?
LOL speaking of which, is it too late to tag into his call for his Hogwarts friends?
[He waves his hand at his concern.]
I'm sure you could find someone younger than you worthy of carrying on the mantle. Think of it as a very odd Slytherin inheritance!
[That way the Common Room stays beautiful, and Mettaton has a legacy that lives on past him. Win-win!]
Not at all! I was hoping you might tag in!
[And a challenge. It sounds a bit tough, but Dorian knows a few people...]
I think I already have a few candidates in mind...
Ok! I'll get on that as soon as I am caught up with tags!
[He laughs a little.]
Of course it would continue to be grand even if we didn't do this, but I'd say it adds some extra flair, you know?
Sweet! Thank you, non-robot friend!
I'm sure the other students appreciate the extra flair. As opposed to the alternative. [Namely the dungeon Slytherin house used to be. Bleh.]
no subject
Maybe we should expand this little venture of ours beyond the Slytherin Common Room, hm? We could decorate all of the dungeons with something more befitting of these modern times! Who uses dungeons in 2016 anyway?
no subject
Erm... That sounds lovely, but I get the feeling the dungeons are dungeons for a reason.
Don't they keep horrible things in there?
[Dorian has heard rumors, anyway.]
no subject
Oh, they do. I heard that there are chains down there specifically designed to string you up by your thumbs, plus old blood stains from more bloody punishments in the past. Things like that.
no subject
Goodness! Thank Merlin they don't let the professors get away with that these days.
no subject
It's better for all of us, definitely. Now the dungeons are mostly home to ghosts, mold, and us.
[He wrinkles his nose a bit at the thought.]
What in Merlin's name was Salazar thinking when he put his house here?
no subject
[Dorian actually puts some thought into it, glancing at the squid as it passed by the windows.]
Perhaps he wanted some privacy? Or he enjoyed the underwater view?
[Shrug.]
no subject
[It was "Slytherin's monster", Mettaton, but nice try anyway!]
no subject
If he wanted to put his prized possessions somewhere safe, he could have gone to Gringott's, or whatever the equivalent was back then.
no subject
I think his equivalent was stuffing all of his gold into a cursed tree stump. Or maybe storing it away in some dark mountain side, like a dragon.
[He stretches a bit, finally getting up from the couch.]
Well, I hate to cut this conversation short, but it is getting rather late. We should both think about heading to bed soon.
[As if he's actually going to sleep. His "gift" for Napstablook is almost to completion, and he'll probably stay up all night in his dormitory trying to finish it off for them.]
no subject
[Dorian does realize the importance of beauty sleep, and decides he should probably get some himself. Classes and all that.]
Shall we see each other again one day? [He knows the answer is yes, but he's just being silly.]
no subject
Oh Dorian, if the stars align just right... yes, we shall~!
[He gives the other Slytherin a low, sweeping bow as he walks towards the dormitory stairs.]
Until we meet again, good sir.
