The Story:

Ah, Hogsmeade.

They say it's the Vegas of the wizarding world. Or they would, if wizards knew anything about Vegas. Or maybe they'd say it because they don't know anything about Vegas. It doesn't really matter.

What's important is that Hogsmeade is only a hop, skip and jump away from Hogwarts (Hogsmeade, Hogwarts? Coincidence? Wake up, America!), and is host to a number of exciting prospects for people of all ages, provided you're Year 3 or older. Perhaps you're a professor searching for a stiff drink at the Hog's Head Inn to wipe away the stress of the week's classes? Or maybe you're a hapless student with fresh eyes for the little hamlet, eager to try your first Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks?

The village has something for everyone, with all the assorted businesses a thriving witch-and-wizard town could need: grocers, an apothecary, magical item mechanics, clothiers, sporting goods, bookstores, and the Wizarding Wireless Network headquarters.

[ Rafe's fingers twitch and begin to drum impatiently against the table. Who does this kid think he is? Does he not know who he's trifling with? ]

Consider the gift returned to sender. See if there's anybody else who wants to share because me? [ Hmm, a tilt of the head as he tuts. ] No.

[He's been a this school for five years. He knows who he's trifling with. He just doesn't care. He's never had what one would consider to be a strong sense of self preservation. He puts on a wounded look.]

I think I'm hurt. Kicking me out already? And I mean, I just sat down.

[ It's a wonder any Gryffindor survives to graduation if this kind of reckless bullshit is the norm for the House. Rafe glances at the door but still no sign of— All right there's time enough to skewer this moron who's sat down with him. ]

You think? [ Mock surprise blanks his features as he blinks, slow and reptilian. ] Color me shocked.

[Shaun has always been a special case. He sighs and looks around, not actually making a move to get up yet.]

So who do you think I should go sit with?

I'm sure anyone here would be blessed with your presence.

[ What. He's totally sincere. 100%. Can't you tell. ]

[Well aren't you just the nicest Slytherin Shaun has ever met? He gives him the sweetest smile he can manage without making it into a shiteating grin.]

[ It's true, Rafe is always chosen to shepherd tiny impressionable first years. Whether or not said first years come out crying at the end of the experience is entirely irrelevant. ]

That's me. Sugar and everything nice. [ His tone is dry enough to desiccate the whole damned lake and all merfolk in it. ] Friend to the every-man.

[ And then Rafe's grin turns absolutely vicious. ]

Which is the only reason you're not dancing a cursed jig back up to the castle right now.

[Now that is a little more like what Shaun had been expecting. And there is a not small part of him that absolutely wants to tell Rafe to do it and see how far he gets. But. He likes the Three Broomsticks, and he likes being allowed to come in here, and he has a feeling that would change if he and Rafe made a mess of the place.

So he smiles.]

Have I mentioned how much I appreciate your generosity of spirit?

Possibly. I can't recall. [ Rafe shrugs amiably, a smile that could rip out your throat still plastered on his face. ] I'm doing my best to forget this conversation already.

[ Truly, poster children for their houses. Somebody should get a freaking camera in here. ]
