Who: Souji and you
Where: The diner
When: 12/15-12/25
Rating: PG-13 at most
Summary: Souji's catch-all for the second half of December
The Story: When not having crazy Mansion dreams, Souji can be found...
The Diner
The diner has been decorated just like everything else in the Mansion. Of course, like every year, Souji's made his own additions, like the Colonel (plus twinkling fairy lights). This is the fourth annual KFC Christmas in Wonderland and he's pretty sure he's gotten even closer to the 11 herbs and spices recipe (it took a lot of practice and many days eating nothing but fried chicken).
Inside the diner, visitors will find plenty of fried chicken, a few appropriate sides, and plenty of Christmas cake complete the menu. Cocoa, coffee, tea, and various other drinks are available.
Souji's there, of course, to greet anyone who comes in and to hang out with folks, especially the others who work there when they choose. Regardless of which category people fall into, he will try to feed them. (He'll even make any non-fried-chicken-or-cake foods people might want, but seriously, what more could you want?)
Outside
Now that there's finally snow, Souji can be found outside playing with his very fat, small pet dragon and a gray and white bunny, which remains mostly bundled up inside his jacket, its head peeking out under his chin. He plays with the dragon, coaxing it to run, as well as making rather distinctive snowmen, each of which Tefra (the very fat, small dragon) immediately pounces on. He never seems particularly bothered by that.
He also takes his little troupe down to the beach, though that's less to play and more to just stare out at the horizon. He did that at home in the past, though it wasn't usually during the winter. It makes him feel nostalgic.
Around the Mansion + Gifts!
Souji spends time at various tables around the mansion working on his Christmas gifts. He can be found in his own room, the library, diner, tea rooms, even the dining room working on them as well as their very nice packaging.
He makes enough of these gifts to give to everyone he knows, even those he's only spoken to a handful of times. He delivers them on December 24, giving them in person if he can, and leaving them at peoples' doors along with a "Happy Christmas" note if he can't.
Of course, there are a few people he has special gifts for.

Wow, Elena, be less obvious with your eagerness there. Her body language screams it, though: her posture straightens, hand falling down to her side as her gaze grows expectant and inquisitive all at once.
If people are choosing to take these dreams with a grain of salt, Elena can hope there's a good reason behind the choice.
no subject
Only six memories, huh, Souji?
That aside, he can't assume that the ratio is fixed. For all he knows, there will be five events in a row from his world in the next months. But from what he's observed of Wonderland, he doubts it.
no subject
Wouldn't they forget to remember anything was missing at all?
Still, she finds comfort in Souji's words. Mostly because she wants to. Elena has been valiantly attempting to unlock the mysteries, and her efforts have been futile. If they really are trapped here with no hope of escape lest Wonderland chooses to let them go, she'd like to think she could remain herself. "Do you like it here? Wonderland, I mean."
no subject
His expression turns pensive as he speaks. It's not that he doesn't miss home - sometimes he's more homesick than he thought was possible. But there's a lot here that he'd lose if he left.
"What do you think of it? Do you like it?"
no subject
Her smile wanes when she looks up at Souji. Elena feels guilty for liking it so much. Gone are the days where she so intensely searched for a way back home, even if she's technically never stopped. Elena doesn't know that she could ever stop. "There are opportunities I have here that I'd have nowhere else. It's ... safer than home, strangely enough. It shouldn't, but it's started to feel like home, too."
A home away from home, at the very least.
no subject
"I've lived here longer than I've lived in any one place in my life."
Granted, he's only seventeen technically, so he wouldn't have to have moved all that often for that to be the case. But it's also a tribute to his parents' questionable skills at bringing up a child.
no subject
Elena is aware of how ridiculous that might sound — calling Wonderland a stable place. But everyone needs roots, a place to call their own, chaotic though it may be in every other way.
no subject
Wonderland's chaos is so predictable most of the time that every few weeks it's "just time for another event." Even the bad events aren't usually anything getting worked up over in the long run.
"I also don't want to lose the things I have here that I won't have at home."
It was an odd space to occupy - somewhere between deep homesickness and anxiety at the thought of leaving.
no subject
Elena sounds certain about that.
"I wouldn't hold it against anybody if they wanted to stay," she adds. There are plenty of reasons for that, including the most tragic one — some people are dead back home and Wonderland is all they have. "I just wish we had a choice."
To stay or go. To keep what they want to keep.
no subject
He's been in Wonderland so long without interruption that it's gone totally out of his mind that he could leave at any moment. Or maybe he doesn't want to think about that, because waiting to leave doesn't do much to lessen the feeling of homesickness.
"This place is a real mixed bag. The good and the bad follow each other too quickly to know which Wonderland really is."
no subject
It would be easier if Wonderland was merely a cage where nothing good ever happened.
"I don't think anyone would blame you if your mind changed every now and then."
Sometimes, it depends on the season.
no subject
"You said this is your first Christmas here. When did you arrive?"
no subject
At least until Wonderland decides otherwise.
"February. I arrived February 15th, so I guess pretty soon it will be a year."
no subject
Souji's found it so easy to lose track of time here. His arrival anniversary, holidays, even his own birthday always seem to pass him by.
"Do you think it's worth paying attention to?"
His tone doesn't give away his own thoughts on that matter.
no subject
A good question that deserves genuine thought behind it, and so Elena doesn't answer right away. Loss is a terrible demon, and it came to her one night at the bottom of a river. It's never quite let her go since.
"You know what? Yeah, I do. Especially in a place as senseless as Wonderland. A place where time stands still. Those moments can give life meaning."
Maybe not everyone needs that, but she does. She does.
no subject
"I think so, too."
He learned over the course of one year that every day is important. If he doesn't cram every minute full of something because once they're gone, they're gone forever.
"I lose track more than I'd like, though."
no subject
"I don't know if this'll help you, but what I do is I keep a journal."
She hasn't been writing in it as much as she'd hoped, but life (and not without a little bit of drama) has been keeping her busy. "It helps gather and clear my thoughts, and I don't lose anything I don't want to."
Even if Wonderland decides to strip her of a particular memory, if it's important, it will be found in those journals.
no subject
"I used to have a friend here who recorded his memories from home, just in case he lost one of them."
Either strategy would at least give him a way to keep track of each day or every few days.
no subject
Memories are important to Elena. She tries not to let paranoia get the best of her. She can't think about Wonderland's memory loss every hour of every day. She would drive herself mad. But she also can't ignore the dangers that lurk in an otherwise pretty package.
Her smile lifts, lingers. "I should probably get going, but ... thank you for the coffee, Souji."
And she hopes it's clear she is thanking him for far more than coffee.
no subject
He's really got to cut back on that.
