Who: Claire Bennet & Clara Oswald & Open

Summary: Claire's got a death wish & Clara just wants to keep everyone safe.
The Story:

As far as terrible things go, this is ranking pretty high on the list. Claire's never really seen anything like this before, and as horrific as watching Jackie get her head cut open and die was, at least it was only one person. There's people getting hurt all over the place here, people being too afraid to figure out what to do. She's one of them. Despite not really being able to die, fear is still a pretty natural reaction for her to have toward things like this.

Clara, on the other hand, controls her fear and uses it to her advantage. She's motivated to keep not only the people she cares about safe, but everyone else in the mansion as well. She knows it might be a futile effort, but she can't give up hope that everyone will be just fine in the end.

[Toothless is out patrolling, getting the hang of things very slowly. But he's survived the first night, and now today. He's been able to track things, slowly, able to sense from the loud breathing and smell when a hellhound was close. He comes across Claire wandering and immediately pinpoints that a hellhound isn't too far away from her.

Snarling, he charges it, head down, and slams it against the closest wall, tearing into it with his claws.]

[At first, she thinks it's another one of the creatures. But then she realizes she can see it, and her mind jumps to the fact that there might be more things out there that want to kill her. She backs her way up into a corner to watch it struggle against the hellhound, and realizes it's protecting her.

Whatever it is, it's good in her book.]

Be careful!

[She calls out, pushing herself off of the wall to run over and try to help.]

[The real issue with fighting hellhounds, for Toothless, is that he can't tell which end has the teeth on it. Not until he engages it. This time, he manages to pin the head more against the wall; he can hear its jaws snapping. Snarling, the Night Fury grapples with his claws, rending invisible hellhound flesh. The hound lets out an enraged snarl.

He uses his previous strategy, which seems to work well - wound it so severely that it can't move too fast, and then back up to deliver a fireball or two. Until that point, however, it's a very noisy and gruesome-looking battle, with hellhound blood splattering the floor.

Toothless makes sure Claire is a good distance away from them before he leaps backward abruptly, peppering the hellhound with fire until all sounds stop. Then the Night Fury stands there, panting.]

[She watches the fight with wide eyes, crying out in alarm when she thinks her protector just might be hurt. But then the dog thing is retreating, and her surprise savior is left standing there panting, and Claire takes a moment to stare over and try and figure out what it is.

It quickly sinks in that she's been saved by a dragon.

A dragon. Here, in Wonderland.

Since it's already gone through the trouble of saving her, she's not afraid to approach, and she hurries in close so she can check it's neck for any sign of injury.]

Thanks for that. You're totally my hero.

[She crouches down, cautiously reaching out to place a hand on its neck.]

[While the hound has given him a few superficial marks from its claws, Toothless is otherwise fine. Providing he isn't mobbed, fighting a hellhound is a task that a Night Fury can rise to. He trills in the back of his throat, looking concernedly at Claire — he's checking her for injuries, too.

Seeing nothing, the dragon gives her a gentle nudge with his snout. You're welcome, Viking.]

You're pretty amazing, you know that?

[She's fine, of course, but takes the hit for affection when she sees it, and laughs as she leans down to place a kiss to his forehead. He's definitely her hero.]

What's a dragon like you doing stuck inside a house like this? You should be out there, flying and away from danger.

[Toothless' big green eyes turn downward, almost bashful, at the kiss. He nods a little at the adjoining hallway, gesturing to the mansion at large, and then makes a snorting sound. While he'd probably be safe in the air, the Vikings would all still be in danger. He can't leave his friends alone at a time like this.]

[She nods, as if she knows exactly what the dragon is trying to say. And in a way, maybe she does. It's not hard to figure out that he lives here, and wants to keep his home safe.]

I'm Claire. And since this isn't a Disney movie, you can't talk back, huh?

[She shrugs, and motions for him to follow as she heads off down the hall. Her hand remains pressed gently against his side, a gesture that helps her feel more safe.]

Should we try to find more of those things? We could fight them. Kind of like Lilo and Stitch. Only...more violent.

[He turns his head to give her almost an amused sort of look. She doesn't have weapons that he can see, or armor. How does she intend to fight them? In his mind, they're better off trying to find a safe spot for now. But Toothless will follow Claire wherever she goes from here, intent on keeping her from harm.]
