She hadn't been expecting company, but that didn't always mean anything here, especially when she'd made so many acquaintances who kept as odd hours as she did. Not to mention the ones she shared a homeworld with.

When she opened the door to find Maria in the hall, however, she spares a moment to be surprised at the unexpected sight of the woman, blinking at her a moment as she adjust to this new information.

Then her lips curve into a crooked little grin as she leans against the door frame. "Fashionably late as always. At least I'm not bleeding out this time."

"I probably would have let you in anyway, but now you sound like you could use a drink," Natasha counters, crossing her arms over her chest. "Why don't we head down to the bar instead and you can fill me in. Or I can fill you in. Or both, that's more likely here. I take it you've gotten the rundown?"

She doesn't wait for an answer. Instead, she steps out into the hall and tugs her door shut behind her, fully intending to lead the way down the hall towards the stairs.

"I think the important question is why doesn't 'long day' trigger bars with you," Natasha tossed back when the woman started following her. "Besides, I happen to find them relaxing. It helps me unwind after a long day. It's familiar. Then again, so is the gym, but I thought you'd prefer sharing a drink to a sparring session with me."

"Why do I suspect relaxing wasn't in your plans to begin with?" Natasha countered, flashing a grin over her shoulder at the woman as she catches up and they start down the stairs. "It'll be good for you. "It depends on what's going on, but there's not much to do here on some nights, so people often drift down when they're in search of company or just tired of their own rooms. There's a diner upstairs too. I've heard the pie is amazing."

"Haven't gotten around to it yet, although I keep meaning to." Ned seemed interesting and apparently Souji spent a lot of time there too, so she had reason to stop by sometime soon. "The diner's up on the top floor, if I remember right. The bar's down on Four. Run by a young woman named Jo. She's interesting. You might like her."

"Was I?" Natasha arches an eyebrow at that, trying to remember who the last person had been. "And I said might. It's not my fault you're so difficult."

And yes, she is. Whether that's due to Maria's tendency to be difficult or Natasha's irritating persistence remains to be seen. "You can ask now, if you like. We have time."

"About five months now," Natasha answers easily as they descend. "Back home, it was just after the mess in DC. And a good number of us all showed up here right around the same time, although where we're all drawn from has been all over the place. Tony and Pepper were back from their whole mess with AIM, Coulson's here from his time with his team - thanks for that secret, by the way. Remind me to give Fury a piece of my mind if the man ever shows up here. If my superiors keep faking their death, I'm going to start demanding a raise for emotional hazard pay."

"No one wants that. I suspects it's terribly difficult to come back from cremation," she drawls dryly, deadpan as she flicks a glance over at the other woman.

"They are, yes. From near the end of the fighting. Barnes, though. He's from back before Hydra. He remembers falling from the train Steve thought he'd died on and that's the last of it." There's no ears here, but just in case, she lowers her voice for Maria alone, glancing around as she confides information they've all been keeping close in their time here. "He knows what happens, but we've been keeping it quiet in general. The others just think he's Steve's old war buddy."
