Who: Henry Mills, anyone else
Where: The woooooods
When: August 1st
Rating: G-PG
Summary: Emma is gone and Henry has a teenage kid moment
The Story:
[He’s had this vendor card now for a while, and he’s been here now for almost exactly a year; the actual date has passed by a couple of days. But he thinks maybe a good anniversary present to himself is to actually get the ink he needs to write in the blank book Regina brought back on one of her trips home. He has the pen, he has the book and ink. And he has an idea. So, he ventures out and gets what he needs with no memory loss required before making his way back to the mansion.
He wants to do is make it so that Emma won’t be the Dark One. It figures that nothing good can be happening back home, but maybe now, while he’s here in Wonderland, he can start writing and keep it from happening at all. He has to at least try, since he broke the pen back home and screwed up everything because who knows what’s possible? He also kind of wonders if he can change things in Wonderland itself. On the one hand, he kind of wishes he had a mentor for this. On the other, Isaac would have been a super crappy teacher. So he’s hoping he and Emma can work it out together.
Heading to her room, he knocks because he’s never sure if Killian is there and hey, he has manners.]
Mom? It’s me.
[But it's obvious, really fast, that she's not there. The things he knows are hers that are usually laying around are gone, and Lucky is whining. And it figures. It really figures that she'd be gone. Henry isn't cynical, he tries not to see the negative in things, but.
Emma's gone back home, and now she's the Dark One.
He knows Lucky's going to have to go outside, so Henry, on autopilot almost, grabs his leash so they can head out. While his dog does his business, Henry sends one text to Wonderland at large:]
Mom is gone. Emma. All the stuff I know is hers isn't in her room. She's not coming back this time.
[That done, Henry just walks while he thinks. It's not really that Emma is gone from Wonderland, it's what she's going home to, and he can't imagine it, he doesn't want to. What if he loses her forever? What if all the time they had left, was here? Henry winds up in the woods as far as Wonderland will let him go, and he sits, knees pulled up to his chest with no real plan to go back to the mansion. But his dog is still alert, and at the sound of approaching footsteps gets up, protectively standing between whoever is coming, and Henry.]

text;
[Seeing a message like this on the network is strange. Strange for not knowing how he should feel about it.
Normally, Adam's feelings on the matter of other people are pretty clear--either he knows them well enough to care or he doesn't--but Emma is an odd woman out. He hadn't known her well at all, but hearing that she's gone and might have permanently forgotten Wonderland...?
That... sucks.]

Henry?]
Not well, but she did me a solid a while ago. She's one of the good ones.
You're her kid Henry? Sorry she left again.
no subject
At least we knew she was coming back last time because her stuff was all here.
no subject
[Same Henry, or different Henry? Only in this place would Adam have to clarify if there's more than one kid wrapped up in magic, crazy shit, and apparently has two mothers (?).
It's Wonderland, he's more or less accepted nothing is obligated to make sense.]
She'll still be your mom if she remembers being here or not. And I'm guessing she'll still be there when you get back.
no subject
[He's popular?]
She'll remember me, but she won't be the same.
no subject
Not really the vibe he'd been going for, but okay. He'd think the kid would sound a little more unhappy about being associated with all of those things.]
That depends, do you have another mom that's not Emma?
[That'd be weird if it's true, to say the least.]
Does it matter that much if she doesn't remember what happened here?
[He assumes that's what Henry means, that Emma won't be the same Emma that was here, the same Emma that's lived through all this shit.]
no subject
Actually, yeah. Regina. She's still here.
And...it's not here that matters. When she goes home, something bad happens that's going to change her.
no subject
What's up with that? Emma didn't mention that.
[It's a polite way of asking what the deal is with this Practical Magic family with the crazy aunts and the magic.
Along with that, he's also not sure what Henry's trying to say about what's going on at home.]
What do you mean?
no subject
I'm adopted. It probably didn't come up because it's not that important.
[Annnnnywy.]
I don't really know how to explain it. But I guess the closest thing is...she's possessed? By dark magic.
no subject
[Adoptions are fairly standard all things considered. The green smoke and the heart-snatching isn't.]
How does that happen?
[Emma hadn't seemed the type to go around letting herself get possessed in the same way Adam had.]
no subject
She sacrificed herself to save everyone. If she hadn't, dark magic would have destroyed everyone in our town.
no subject
... Well, maybe it's not all crappy luck. If there were more parents like Emma and like Kate out there, Adam likes to think the universe wouldn't be as much of a shithole. Marginally less of one, at least.]
So what does that mean? What's possessing her?
[The good news is, Henry isn't saying Emma's dead. As for the rest... he's not so sure.
The last thing they need is another demon Dean situation.]
You know with the way Wonderland works she could always come back from before it happens. Or two years ahead of you, who knows. I'm not saying you don't have a reason to be worried, but she could show up and be her normal self.
[It's a possibility, at least. Better than thinking the next time a kid sees his mom, she's going to be some kind of possessed nutbar.]
no subject
[It really sucks that he doesn't know more on the history of the Dark One itself, that's what he needs.]
If she does come back, I really hope it's not while she's the Dark One. That could be bad for everyone. But it'd be...it'd be really good if she showed up after, so I know I saved her.
no subject
So it's not an actual thing like a demon, it just makes people go bad?
Look, even if she did ride the evil train to Wonderland, we could snap her out of it. It's worked before. Wonderland has the perk of not following the rules.
Plus, she's your mom. If there's still a part of her inside, she'd be fighting tooth and nail to straighten her head out for you. That's what they do.
[He hasn't been an expert in moms in a long time, but that, he unequivocally knows. The good ones do anything for their kids.]
no subject
[He's never thought about the whole Wonderland aspect of being the Dark One before. Maybe it would have a vested interest in making evil take a back seat. Then again, it hadn't for Rumplestiltskin, so he's not sure he has a lot of hope in that theory. But Adam's right - Emma is still Emma, and he nods slowly.]
Yeah, I know. I know she'll fight.
no subject
[The second part of the text requires a bit more thought than the first.]
Listen, if you need something (from someone not a total psycho) sometime, just ask. You don't know me, but your mom tried to help me when she didn't know a thing about me, either. I still owe her one. My guess is she'd want you to have all the help you can get.
[Consider it paying it forward.]
no subject
Thanks. I'll remember that. If something comes up that I need help with, I'll let you know.
no subject
Just putting it out there. Same deal if she shows back up and she's possessed or whatever.
[If that does happen, he'd want to help her get back to normal the same way she'd tried to when he'd been possessed.]
no subject
Thanks, again.
no subject
[That's the pot calling the kettle black, but no one should be aiming to brood as much as Adam does. He's the cautionary tale.]
Take it easy, Henry.
