Summary: Henry is HYDRA, but in the end it's the love people have for him that brings him back.
The Story:

Aug. 28, 29, 30

[Henry may be young, but he is loyal. As far as he knows, he has always been a part of HYDRA, and he looks up to, more than anyone, Steve. Whatever's asked of Henry, whatever he can do, he does. There's nothing but darkness in a heart that is usually so good, and he's not all that concerned with who he may hurt in the process of carrying out orders. He's not skilled enough yet to try and recruit or brainwash, but he's nimble and quick, stealthy. He puts up the symbols, he sabotages where he can. And all without the burden of his mothers and their fates. They were dark. Good. So was he.]

Aug. 31

[He's been confronted more than once by Robin, by his father. It has no effect the first few times, but the harder they try, the more 'glitches' he seems to have, remembering a baseball game, crying against both of them at separate times. Love. Trust. He tries to shake it off, tries not to sink into feeling like he needs to save his mothers. Tries not to focus on the fact that there's a lingering feeling that he just wants to go home. It has him lashing out more than usual, not wanting to remember even when people try to remind him of good memories, only wanting to fulfill his orders and see them through.]

Sept. 1 (Robin + Neal + Henry [tag order])

[His mistake was in going back to his room, a familiar place, a place with his sentimental things, where people have been that he loves. He didn't expect his dad or Robin to be there, hoping he'd show up, that he'd eventually return to a place he knows. So, when he sees them, it makes Henry stop in his tracks. There are so many emotions, so many things he doesn't want to remember.]

I don't want you here. Whatever you have to say, I don't care.

[But he also doesn't want them to get hurt, and Henry swallows, looking between them both.]

Neither of you matter. You'll go away, leave like everyone else. I have a family now, one that will last forever.

[But even as he says it, he doesn't sound convinced, his voice unsteady.]

[Honestly? Regina's been so caught up in trying to control herself that she completely missed that an event was due. After the ~~handwaved~~ incident where Henry found out she's the new Dark One, she's kept to her room, with every protection spell she could think of and then some on the door.

But even Dark Ones go a little crazy when cooped up for too long. She's the Dark One, if she wants to roam the halls in a badass dress with a hint of glitter on her skin, she's going to. With a flick of her wrist, the spells come down and the door flings open. There's no aim in mind, just stretching her legs and maybe terrorising some of the population.

She turns a corner and--]

... Henry?

[Henry pauses as soon as he sees her, looking at her. This is the first time he's seen her like this completely, glittery and decked out, and for a moment, he says nothing in return. Until he calls her something he never has before. Mom, mommy, mama, all of that has passed his lips, but nothing so cold and formal as:]

Mother. Wait...do I still call you that?

[There's a sarcastic edge to his words, an uncaring, and he stares at her, waiting to see what she'll do.]

[Regina's eyes narrow immediately because even when Storybrooke was still cursed, when she wasn't the best mother she could have been, he never spoke to her like that. Came close a few times, sure, but never like that. Her first instinct now is to correct it, but this is Henry and something is clearly wrong.]

Well, you only have the one left now.

[But I guess she's not pulling any punches either. She doesn't even look surprised at herself, even if it's something she'd never usually say.]

[It should have bothered him, and were Henry himself, it would. But as it is he just looks at her, bored.]

Technically, I have two Dark Ones, the other one just isn't here. Now you have the power to try and do what you always wanted: lock me up. Keep me all to yourself, hidden away. Is that what you're going to try and do now? I bet you think no one's here who can stop you.

[Right in front of her, not caring, he sets up a HYDRA symbol, looking at his work, proud of himself when he's done.]

[And with a wave of her hand, after she's gotten a good look at the symbol, it's gone. At least now she knows who to kill...]

You foolish boy. [She laughs.] If I wanted to do that, I didn't need to become the Dark One to do it.

[Since she... did do that once before. Oh season two.]

Since you're clearly not yourself, you're going to explain. Now.

No I'm not. I don't have to tell you anything. Not anymore. I don't answer to you, or Neal, or Robin. And you don't have to pretend like you care.

[He looks to where the mark has disappeared, then back at her.]

You can remove them all you want. That doesn't change anything. Hail HYDRA.

[Well, that sounds familiar. Suddenly it's like they're back in Storybrooke and the clock is stuck at 8:15, but instead, things are far worse than a stuck clock and a cursed town.]

So you answer to this HYDRA, then? [Well,] At least now I know who to kill for laying a hand on my son.

No one did anything to me. I just figured it out.

[For as much as he's convinced he's HYDRA, there are still real emotions fueling his anger.]

I don't want to be sad and weak anymore. Emma's dark. You're dark. My dad is dead. Eventually everyone will leave. But if I'm not weak, then it won't matter. No one in HYDRA will ever let me be alone.

[Well, that explains things. Wonderland, and therefore someone in it, is the culprit.]

You've never been weak, Henry. [Even with the Dark One tainting her thoughts, she knows that.] There are things even the most powerful people can't stop, look at Mr. Gold.

[Look at her. Look at Emma.]

I love everyone. And I know you've said it: Love is weakness.

[Henry's jaw clenches as he stares at her.]

Now I don't feel anything. They made me better.

[She scoffs, pushing down the anger that flares up when he quotes her mother.]

Something I learned from my mother and she is the last person you ever want to be like.

[Even as the Dark One... and after unintentionally mimicking her, Regina is still very much anti-Cora.]

Enough of this nonsense, Henry.

There's nothing you can do to stop me. So just...leave me alone. I don't want you, or anyone else from Storybrooke.

[For a second, real emotion flickers in his eyes, but it disappears just as quickly.]

Unless you're going to make me stay, I'm going.

[He tries to walk past her then, jaw clenched in determination.]

[She clenches her hands at her sides, trying and barely succeeding at the urge to make him stay, just like he's saying.]

Just - Just go, Henry.

[She lets him walk past, standing firm and refusing to turn and grab his wrist.]

[Henry smirks a little, sure that he's won.]

Goodbye, mother. Oh, and since you're already evil again, think about joining HYDRA. They do everything you already like, but for a reason. Not that you ever needed a good one.

[HYDRA has made him cold, and callous, and he doesn't care, walking away from her and never even looking back.]
