I move through town [OPEN]
Who: Rose Hathaway ][ OPEN
Where: Various: Mansion Grounds, Training Center, Beach + Other.
When: Any time during the first week of June.
Rating: May vary. PG+. Will Edit as needed.
Summary: Choose your own adventure / open catch-all for Rose. Prose or Action welcome.
The Story:
[When Rose had first arrived in Wonderland, two and a half months ago now. She had been very sure of how things were going to play out. She wasn’t going to be like half the people she’d met on her first day in the Mansion. There would be no future husbands for her here. No new BFFs or finding a job and there sure as hell wouldn’t be any damn scrapbooking.
That reasoning had kept her from even trying to fit in at first. She hadn’t really bothered getting to know her ‘fellow captives’. She’d barely bothered to go anywhere beyond the fifth floor. As far as she was concerned, she didn’t need to get to know her way around a place she wasn’t going to stay in for very long. Fitting in, familiarizing herself with her surroundings, making friends? That was the kind of thing you did when you’d been dipping into the Koolaid.
Of course, that had been fine in the beginning but as the weeks turned into months? Rose didn’t do well with sitting still for too long. Boredom made her volatile on a good day and while her bedroom in Wonderland was better than anything she’d ever had before, those four walls had started to feel like they were closing in on her. Stubborn to the point of stupid might have been Rose’s style but when you started talking to yourself? It was time to look at your choices.]
[It hadn’t been that long ago that Rose had groaned at the mere thought of dragging her ass out of bed to run laps. Her time spent on the run with Lissa, had made her lazy and she’d become a little too partial to sleeping in. If training hadn’t cured her of that laziness, being in Wonderland had and the mere fact that she was no longer forced to adhere to a night schedule, lent its own appeal to the Dhampir who always longed to be in the sun.
It was the lure of the sun that had seen Rose take to the running the grounds of the Mansion and what had started as a way to kill time, had become a part of her daily routine. The route changed every other day as a way to keep things interesting but just as soon as it was light outside. She could be found out there, pushing herself until her legs were ready to give way.]
[Of all the places in the Mansion, there was one that reminded Rose most of being back home. There was just something about the smell of sweat. Of rubber training dummies and vinyl covered mats. The sound of fists connecting with flesh and sneakers squeaking on floors that was comforting to her. Most people grew up with toys and television. Rose had this.
Most of her free time is therefore spent on the second floor. Rose pummeling one of the dummies in question with hands she often forgets to wrap and then pays for afterwards. Anyone who spends much time watching her would note a somewhat unusual style of fighting. The brunette working to land a series of blows before slamming the dummy with the side of her fist, right in the center if its chest where the heart would be on a person. The kind of blow that would undoubtedly pierce it, if she were to be fighting an actual person and happened to have a weapon in her hand.
Though she might spend most of her time training solo, Rose can always be tempted to spar. Either using a staff or hand to hand combat and when she’s not training? She’s been known to hang around and watch others, not out of boredom but a sincere interest in different fighting styles.]
[The last time Rose had been anywhere near the ocean, it had been while on Holiday with Lissa’s family. Even then, the sun had long since set before her feet had touched the sand, all the warmth depressingly leached out of it. When you lived with people who were basically, deathly allergic to the sun? The one thing she could admit to not hating about being here was the fact that she could actually enjoy the feeling of the sun on her face.
She’d discovered the beach during her morning runs and had taken to coming down here at the end of most days. Her shoes cast off to the side as her toes push through the sand. It’s generally something she does on her own but this is one of those times when Rose isn’t sending out unapproachable vibes so some company probably wouldn’t be minded if you do happen to cross her path. ]
[Between the bar on the Fifth Floor, the Dining Room, the Kitchen and various other areas of Wonderland that are worth exploring? Rose is likely to be found just about anywhere so feel free to set up something of your own for a starter or hit me up on plurk for potential plotting;

- Mansion Grounds

- Training Center
[Of all the places in the Mansion, there was one that reminded Rose most of being back home. There was just something about the smell of sweat. Of rubber training dummies and vinyl covered mats. [Between the bar on the Fifth Floor, the Dining Room, the Kitchen and various other areas of Wonderland that are worth exploring? Rose is likely to be found just about anywhere so feel free to set up something of your own for a starter or hit me up on plurk for potential plotting;

Surprise touches her features when she sees she's not alone. Rose watching Natasha work over one of the dummies as she dumps a towel and bottle of water in the corner of the room. Watching her with quiet curiosity for a moment.]
Aren't most people still asleep at this hour. [A wry grin touching her lips as she starts towards the sparring dummies.]

Her lips quirk. ]
I'm not most people. You're up early as well.

There's an unexpected number of fighters here. [Choosing a dummy a few up from Natasha.] Who are really pissed off.
[Meaning she'd probably have to fight for space because everyone is working out their issues on friggen training dummies. All this from the girl who, totally uses this place to work out her issues but that just makes her an expert as far as she's concerned.]

He spots her before she spots him but doesn't slow his pace until he reaches her, sweaty and only mildly winded as he slows and flashes her a grin. ]
Out soaking up the scenery?
[Action | Beach]
One eye opens a crack, Rose squinting up as she brushes her hands off on her jeans.] I figure if I'm going to be stuck here a while then I might as well start working on my tan.
no subject
It's a good plan. Does that mean I get to ogle you out here in a tiny bikini on my morning runs?
no subject
You know the last Brit who talked to me like that got punched in the face, right?
[It's hard to say if that tiny grin she fights to keep from her lips is because she gets a kick out of the casual promise of violence or if she just enjoys remembering seeing Eggsy hit the ground, hard.]
But I don't really swim.

So she's here pretty often too, dressed in a back sports bra and black leggings, her bright fiery hair up in a high, curly ponytail, and the runes burned into her skin on very obvious display.
Rose is already there when she arrives, and Clary recognizes her immediately, eyebrows lifting as she sees what's she doing. She raises one hand in greeting, the smile on her face clearly indicated that she's pleased to see the other young woman.]
Oh, hey!
[action ; training center]
Hey - [Pushing a piece of hair back from her damp forehead.] See you’ve found the only place worth checking out around here.
[Rose is probably one of the few people who would actually say that when you consider the café and the cinema and the... fifty other places that most people would be excited over.]
And how to work the closets. [Rose is at least getting the hang of the clothing side of things but when all you want is gym gear, it’s not that hard.]
no subject
[Which is comforting, even if it also just makes her want to go home more.
She looks down at her clothes before she chuckles.]
Well, I wasn't about to train in jeans. That might very well be the actual worst.
no subject
[Not that Clary is likely to understand Rose's definition of the word.]
Like a school but instead of learning boring stuff you learn how to throw a punch.
[Grin wry. At least now she knows you're not a wannabe trainer. In rose-Land that matters.]

ever since, she's been taking her lessons more seriously, and that means working on her upper body strength. this chickie is not giving up on her roar. she's just finished her set of exercises with a stability ball when she happens upon rose. rose, who is going at that dummy with her bare hands. ]
Whoa. Doesn't that hurt?
[ sorry, rose. you now have an impressed audience. ]
training center.
With one final series of hits that ends with a slam to the dummies chest, Rose lifts her gaze. Breathing harder than usual as she shakes out her hands.]
Um? [Looking at them now, she can see the blisters already starting to form.] Your hands go numb after the first minute so... not right now it doesn't?
[Later would be another story but like Rose was going to admit that Dimitri might have been right.]

You're not worried about later?
[ she juts her thumb toward the door behind them. ] We can get you some ice for that.

There are easier ways to check out my ass, ya know.

Nevertheless she was there that day, taking a peaceful walk rather than going there to do any thinking. It's slightly surprising to see someone there - though there are many people in Wonderland Lydia doesn't often see them at the beach. She's also never seen this woman before, though there are still a lot of people in Wonderland that Lydia hasn't met.
Thankfully, as Lydia approaches some more, she doesn't look like she minds being disturbed. Never a better time to meet new people, right? )
It's a nice day for the beach.
( It was a nice day most days, but still )

[Rose's words lacking the bitterness that was usually attached to anything she said about Wonderland. Even she couldn't be grumpy about being here all the time and the sun warming her skin did much to improve her often sour mood.]
It makes for a nice change from trees and mountains.

( Though there is that forest, though it usually turns you back around than makes you lost )
I've put a few things in the mansion to try and make it better.

Training Center!
Hey.
[They haven't spoken much since shortly after Rose's arrival, but there's definitely something eye-catching about her style of fighting, and Jo folds her arms across her chest for a moment as she watches, impressed.]
Nice work. Feel like sparring with someone who can fight back?
Training Center!
She didn't hate exchanging the crit for compliments.]
Thanks - [Slamming her imaginary stake once more into the chest of her dummy. The hit jarring enough that the rubber body continues to vibrate from the impact even after Rose turns towards Jo.]
Oh - hell yeah. [A huff of a chuckle spilling past her lips.] Don't get me wrong - I get why people don't exactly look forward to the monsters or whatever showing up bit - But fighting has been the only thing that's saved my sanity since I got here.

I get it. Training helps keep me centered, too. It keeps you focused, gives you something to throw yourself into so you don't go stir-crazy.
[It's the same reason Jo immediately offered her help at the bar all those years ago, too, before Dean passed it down to her.]
If you're training, you're improving. It's something you can control-- nice when you're in a place that's as random as Wonderland can sometimes be.

grounds;
Also it's late morning and he should really not be asleep right now anyway.
But that's how Hawke finds himself chasing the creatively named Dog around the grounds until he loses track of the beast when it gets a little too fast. Stopping to catch his breath, he gives a groan and looks around, whistling a few times to no avail.]
Damn Dog, where are you?
[He starts moving again, breaking into a jog. Chances are he'll give up in a couple minutes and go back inside and leave the damn thing to find its own way back to him.
But still, he calls out to Rose when he sees her.]
Hey! You haven't seen a huge dog recently, have you? Kind of looks more like a bear than a dog?
