The Story:

[Jane Doe is called such out of irony, really. She makes people forget, makes them the Janes and John Does of the world who know nothing of what happened to them, the secrets they've heard, the things they've done.
At least, that's how she's been told she should act. Eliminate human memories, take away everything until they're weak husks with no way to function on their own. Every now and then, to keep up appearances, she has to, she has no choice. But she hates it, she hates it every time, especially when there's an audience. She's supposed to feel superior, and instead, she feels like some twisted executioner, every time. And then, she went and fell in love with a human, making her life full of color against the dark shadows whenever they're together. They have to be careful, so careful. If they're ever caught together by anyone other than a human sympathizer, they'll both be killed.
During her days, she keeps to her own kind, the ones who bask in being a mutant, but at night, she finds the human sympathizers for a few hours before it's so late, she can sneak off to find Kurt without being noticed At least, she hopes.]
end of second day/beginning of t h i r d d a y - closed to Kurt Weller
[Jane remembers something tiny at first, something about...FBI. Something about a place called Wonderland. At first it's wisps of fragments of memories, and after being reunited with Kurt where he lives in Genosha, she tries to tell him, asks if he knows, if he remembers something that isn't supposed to be. She remembers a place not here, a dress, dancing with him, stolen kisses. But then she remembers a place that's even different from that; mirrors that mocked them somehow, a homecoming together on the floor of a gym.
She tries to tell him what she knows as they hold onto each other, clinging to every moment they have because one day, eventually, their meetings will become less as people get more violent. So, she shifts focus at times to simply kiss him, be with him, revel in his touch while she can.]
Day Two
Although she hasn't voiced it, she knows that will just put people like her and Jane in even more demand as this schism widens.
She almost bumps into her this morning on the street but glances up and recognizes her, a crooked smile curling across her lips. ]
I take it they've been keeping you busy?

As always. It feels like it's picking up more though. I think...
[She clears her throat a little, forehead creasing.]
I think there's a group of captured anti-mutant humans that I'm going to have to...'fix' soon.
[Jane doesn't relish the thought the way she 's sure some others would. She also doesn't ignore orders or duties.]

Things have been volatile, of late. It's getting worse.

[Jane trails off, taking a risk, her voice low.]
This is getting out of hand.

It's putting a bandaid on what could be a mortal wound. A pebble in a cracking dam. It'll only hold for so long. We're temporary solutions, you and I. Not a real fix for the problem.

It's just a job, after all. ]
What do you think they'd do to me if I did refuse. I'm not going to, but..hypothetically.
no subject
What, you're thinking of quitting?
[ She sounds a little surprised by that. But then again, she can understand how this position could wear a person down after a while. ]
Who said they'd do anything to you? I'm pretty sure you're allowed to quit. There's no law against that. I turn down jobs regularly. [ Then again, she's still an independent contractor. Her freedom to choose has always been an important motivator to stay that way. ]
no subject
What...
[ She takes a deep breath and lets it out, lowering her voice. ]
What if quitting means they look at you harder, and they find out something they shouldn't?
[ Jane holds Nat's gaze, sort of willing her to understand here, and praying confiding in her is a choice she won't regret. ]
no subject
I suppose that would depend on how bad the thing is you don't want them to find out.
[ Her tone is mild, careful, but she gives a covert glance around both of them. Just in case. ]

I love one. A human. He's...
[ She looks completely helpless. ]
I love him.
no subject
Are you crazy?
no subject
I don't...maybe, God, I don't know. But someone followed me to his place, or tried to. Andrea. Do you know her? I tried to double back and...throw her off but I don't think it worked. I don't know. I can't let anything happen to him. Or his sister.
no subject
I know of Andrea. She's good. You put yourself in a precarious position, Jane. Especially right now. Being protective of a human is not a favorable stance right now, not with all the attacks that have been popping up.
[ But it's not like falling in love was ever convenient.
Natasha sighs, pressing her lips together as she eyes the other woman. ]
If you're that worried about their safety, then you should probably look into getting them out of this area. It's getting more hostile every day. Find them a safehouse, keep them tucked out of sight.

[ But Jane needs her help. She really can't do this all by herself, and she doesn't even know who to turn to, or who to trust. Hell, she doesn't even know that she can trust Natasha fully, but she's trying because she has no idea what else to do. ]

What do you need?
no subject
If you know of any place, just to give us a start, that's all I need.
[ 'Us.' As in she's definitely going with Kurt and not sending him off without ever seeing him again. ]
no subject
Give me a day. Two at the most. I'll see if I can find something. Will that help?
no subject
[It's all that Jane can think to say, and she nods. She can give her two days. Jane can do that much. ]
no subject
Keep your head down in the meantime. And be careful. I'll be in touch.
