Who: Souji and you
Where: The diner
When: 12/15-12/25
Rating: PG-13 at most
Summary: Souji's catch-all for the second half of December
The Story: When not having crazy Mansion dreams, Souji can be found...
The Diner
The diner has been decorated just like everything else in the Mansion. Of course, like every year, Souji's made his own additions, like the Colonel (plus twinkling fairy lights). This is the fourth annual KFC Christmas in Wonderland and he's pretty sure he's gotten even closer to the 11 herbs and spices recipe (it took a lot of practice and many days eating nothing but fried chicken).
Inside the diner, visitors will find plenty of fried chicken, a few appropriate sides, and plenty of Christmas cake complete the menu. Cocoa, coffee, tea, and various other drinks are available.
Souji's there, of course, to greet anyone who comes in and to hang out with folks, especially the others who work there when they choose. Regardless of which category people fall into, he will try to feed them. (He'll even make any non-fried-chicken-or-cake foods people might want, but seriously, what more could you want?)
Outside
Now that there's finally snow, Souji can be found outside playing with his very fat, small pet dragon and a gray and white bunny, which remains mostly bundled up inside his jacket, its head peeking out under his chin. He plays with the dragon, coaxing it to run, as well as making rather distinctive snowmen, each of which Tefra (the very fat, small dragon) immediately pounces on. He never seems particularly bothered by that.
He also takes his little troupe down to the beach, though that's less to play and more to just stare out at the horizon. He did that at home in the past, though it wasn't usually during the winter. It makes him feel nostalgic.
Around the Mansion + Gifts!
Souji spends time at various tables around the mansion working on his Christmas gifts. He can be found in his own room, the library, diner, tea rooms, even the dining room working on them as well as their very nice packaging.
He makes enough of these gifts to give to everyone he knows, even those he's only spoken to a handful of times. He delivers them on December 24, giving them in person if he can, and leaving them at peoples' doors along with a "Happy Christmas" note if he can't.
Of course, there are a few people he has special gifts for.

The Diner
...wait.
He stares at the food around the diner as well as The Colonel and, when he spots someone who looks like they work here, gives a small wave to get their attention.]
Yes, hello, why do you have so much fried chicken here?
[He recognizes it a bit, having been on the surface for a few months, but he certainly has no idea how that plays into Christmas.]
no subject
Where I'm from, we eat Kentucky Fried Chicken at Christmas. It's a nation tradition, sort of.
[...]
I can make something else if you don't like fried chicken.
no subject
Is it really? How fascinating! You humans are so diverse in nature, it's quite a wonder.
[He shakes his head.]
Oh, there's no need to go through that trouble! I don't want to interrupt your traditional celebration! Where are you from, if I may ask?
no subject
I'm from Japan. Christmas is kind of an imported holiday, so we have our own way of celebrating it.
[Hm...]
Have you not met a lot of humans?
no subject
Japan! I haven't managed to get over there yet since coming to the Surface. Perhaps when I eventually get back home I'll be able to pay it a visit!
[He hadn't been quite popular enough as a musician to have gone on tours overseas; that's for the farther future!]
Not that many outside of a certain culture, it seems! Monsters are pretty unified in our traditions, so seeing the difference between humans from the same place is always a treat.
no subject
I'm probably biased, but there are a lot of places in Japan worth visiting.
Humans are pretty heterogeneous, though, when it comes to culture and traditions. If you just look at Christmas, there are a lot of different ways to celebrate it.
[One of which is with chicken and cake, clearly.]
no subject
[Never mind that if he does manage to go home he won't remember anything that Souji told him. Or Souji for that matter. It's the thought that counts!]
Do you know the other ways it can be celebrated?
no subject
[Souji has long since gotten over the "we won't remember things" bit of Wonderland. It's much easier to act as if they will, because otherwise, there aren't nearly as many things to talk about.]
In Japan, we go on dates and eat fried chicken and cake. In America they put up trees and decorate them. They have Santa Claus there.
[Come on, Souji, don't you know that Santa Claus transcends all cultural and geographical barriers? Get it together.]
no subject
Inaba. That sounds lovely! Is that your hometown?
[He looks thoughtful at those statements.]
So your Christmas is more romantic in nature? I always thought Christmas was supposed to be about family. Then again, we only had access to whatever human culture that someone threw out so my knowledge is spotty.
[And kiiiind of filled with anime garbage. He takes a lot of it with a grain of salt.]
Wait. You don't have Santa Claus in Japan? I thought everyone did?
no subject
[Although it definitely feels like it now, even after only one year.]
Right. I mean, we eat the chicken and cake with family, or you eat the cake with your girlfriend. There isn't a hard and fast rule about that. But people go out on dates on Christmas Eve. We do have Santa Claus, but it's not really the same at all. He's not as important and doesn't bring presents to everyone.
[But there's something interesting about what he just said.]
You said what people threw out. What do you mean?
[Somehow, even knowing Frisk and Chara, he knows zero things about monsters and the underground.]
no subject
[You don't even know, Mettaton. You don't. Even. Know.]
Hm. On the part of the Surface I have been living in, you could say Santa Claus was king. You humans are so fun in how different you can be!
[He perks up a bit curiously at Souji's question.]
I meant exactly what I said: what people throw out. Everything we had of the Surface fell down to us through various holes and other things into our garbage dump. VHSes, DVDs, books, magazines; anything humans didn't want and threw away by Mt. Ebott had a chance of coming down to us under the mountain.
no subject
[It sounds like America. :|a]
So you got a lot of human culture, but...just the parts no one wanted.
[That sounds kind of...lonely.]
no subject
[It probably is America, tbh, because every place is America right? :P]
I suppose you could look at it like that! We made do with what we got. I was able to make fantastic things with human culture as a base line!
[Mettaton loves humanity, even if all he had in the beginning for it was whatever they discarded.]
no subject
[This is pretty fascinating, even if Souji's not totally sure what's happening in this conversation.]
no subject
Mettaton's grin grows very, very wide.]
An entire entertainment empire, for starters! A hotel and a line of MTT-brand products to continue the trend! I built a cultural shift amongst my people and brought fun to the masses!
[That's a... bit of an exaggeration but Mettaton is prone to that sort of thing.]
no subject
That sounds like a pretty big responsibility for one person.
no subject
[...This human is startling perceptive to the weight of what celebrity status can do to you. Mettaton tries to brush it off easily.]
What may be hard for the ordinary person is extremely easy for me! There's no need to worry.
no subject
[Mettaton clearly saw himself as extraordinary. Souji doesn't quite see why, though, outside of pure force of personality.]
no subject
[He strikes a pose as he says this, sticking a leg out and tilting his head to the side as his hands rest jauntily on his "hips".]
While others can get run down, I keep going and going and going! The perks of running on electricity and magic.
[He gives Souji a quick wink, not breaking his pose for a moment.]
no subject
Don't you ever want to rest?
no subject
Rest? Please. He's got better things to do.]
No. Not at all! Life is too short to take a break.
[He laughs and returns to a regular standing position.]
You may not understand now, but give it time. Eventually you will see why I am such a sensation!
no subject
[He'd imagine a robot would have as much time as he wanted. Well, maybe not, if he ever broke down...]
no subject
Well, aren't you a hard crowd to please!
[He crosses his arms, pouting a bit.]
For your information, if I have a major malfunction in my body, I'm down for the count. Are you happy now?
[Having someone confront you on your fragile mortality is terrible customer service!]
no subject
I thought it might be like that. Is there someone who can fix you?
no subject
Yes. The one who created me, Dr. Alphys. She's another Monster who is here in Wonderland. She is very talented with robotics.
