Asking where a person's been and what misfortune's befallen them can be depressing enough as is. Spicing things up at least has the added benefit of being able to fit in a laugh or an eye roll. Clementine's probably old enough to appreciate the art of deflection.

Maybe it'd be different if the majority of people returned with happy news, but so often they don't.
