The Story:

INTRO

For the first half of the week, he doesn't think much of what's been happening around him. If it's not an event or anything that directly affects him, then he's fit to just stay in his room and wait it out until things settle down. Someone broke something, or messed with something, and that angered the Queen. Not his problem.

Things had been weird with peoples' mirrors though, he noticed. He'd heard about the mirrors awhile back. Some kind of parallel universe within this one of people having doubles that aren't quite right, that might even be dangerous if approached. What would even happen if he were to take one of them out, if it came to it? Would that affect the original person? Would they both just disappear for good? That kinda thing is tricky, and he's had enough of alternate dimension business for awhile. The last event was enough of a headache.

There were some nights he would look at one of the mirrors in his own room, too. Weird, nonsensical scrawling on the pane, and the lack of his own reflection when he went to investigate. He probably had one of those copies too. But he could never catch it in time to know for sure. It'd only recently gotten more frequent, and honestly, it did unnerve him a little bit. After all this dies down, if it does, he might need to do a little more research into that other world. He hasn't died yet once since coming to Wonderland, and he doesn't want to experience that.

The past few days hadn't been the best for his physical health, either. While the Geostigma doesn't seem to show any signs of progressing ever since he'd arrived, it was still there. The episodes were still there. It's a mild relief to know that it won't be killing him anytime soon, but still inconvenient to be running errands and suddenly waking up face-first on the ground. He's gotten better at predicting when it might happen, though. Which means less embarrassing instances like the one in the Gardens. Better yet is the knowledge that it isn't contagious in this world. Kanji supposedly showed no signs of illness even after coming in direct contact with it, which means it's his problem, and his alone.

Still a mess, though.

Today, there hadn't been any writing on his mirrors, which was a little suspicious. He has no idea what his mirror self would even be like - if it had been spurred on by the activity, or it simply retreated into hiding. But that's fine. Whatever does happen, he can deal with it. It's just a matter of when.

There's a lot of commotion out there. He might not have any Materia to defend himself with, but sometimes just a weapon in itself is enough. If he doesn't know how injuring these mirrors would go, he won't go for anything fatal. Just survive and get outta dodge while he can.

Someone gets a little too close. Cloud's hand tightens on the Fusion Sword, and he starts to rise from his chair, watching the doorway very carefully.

Pop.

It happens in an actual blink of an eye. A feeling of displacement, like he'd used an Escape materia in battle, and...

The walls are desaturated. Things are different. He's standing in front of a mirror and his reflection is finally staring back, though it's still and dead-eyed.

But then, it smiles. Lop-sided and crooked and wrong and extremely reminiscent of a certain other someone he knew.

Stay where you belong.

Before he can formulate a response, it picks up the mirror and shatters it against the floor.

MIRRORSIDE

Alright, so... this is bad. Apparently, the both of them can't exist in the same space, right? Or maybe it's some magic his Mirror did. He can't say he completely understands all this, but... there's an unstable copy of himself running loose in the real world now and he isn't sure just how dangerous it can be. But if it could pass onto the real world, then maybe he can, too. Maybe they can switch back before anything too bad happens, right?

Wishful thinking.

This is still his room, but just... a lot more bland. Which means the rest of the Mansion has to mirror (heh) the real thing too, right? He still has his sword. He can still fight. And he's probably not the only one getting swapped around in this weird dimension with no way out.

All these events or whatever eventually time out. He's not going to be stuck here permanently.

...right?

Cloud takes a step back from the now-shattered mirror. Then another. Sword in hand, he takes off out the door through the Mansion's halls.

REALSIDE

The Queen's orders were clear enough - find and apprehend the rogues that had escaped, but now that he was out here, he didn't have any real interest in doing so. Sure, she still had complete power over all of them, but what would she notice if one measly little puppet pulls its own strings, all with established permission to? She let them out. He wasn't just some other rogue.

Just... not doing what she wanted him to.

And why should some reject get to have free reign to do whatever he wanted? Look at how bright and open this world was! Why should any of them have any of this? And besides, it's not like anyone would even notice something was amiss with him walking around out here? How was he any different from the failure?

--well. Aside from a bit of corruption as he moved. It's fine.

Nobody cares.
