He typically lies as little as he can get away with (not because he's a bad liar, but because he's a really good one, and he prefers to have all of his friendships based on as much honesty as possible). He doesn't mind telling the truth about this. It's something he's been wrestling with for a while. "But I also feel like it's not my place to make that decision for someone else. My identity is closely tied with others', and I wouldn't want to have that choice made for me, so I don't want to make it for them. And that goes equally for identities that aren't tied to mine.
