nascensibility: but the pipe organ just doesn't do it justice ([Ave Maria plays in the background])

[Evelyn hangs back a step or two, wary of intruding and also terrified that Joel might react poorly to greater proximity in what should be a private moment. Fearful that the girl is not really a girl but something else, something that could harm him, she is reticent to leave and put him in a position of danger.

Utterly absurd thoughts, given her death toll, but Evelyn has never cared for herself more than she cares for others.

"Sarah" walks closer and Evelyn can see the wet tracks on Joel's cheeks, biting her tongue for his privacy when the girl steps into her father's embrace and out of respect, she looks toward one of the warped mirrors on the wall. It shifts and moves at random, like something out of a fair fun house, and the somnolent quiet is only broken when Sarah shifts her head over Joel's shoulder and Evelyn can see a reflection of her face.

Her face, this...this horrible twisted mask, a mouthful of hundreds of sharp teeth and sunken pits for eyes and skin that hangs from the bones, rotten and sallow. Shocked, Evelyn turns back to look at the girl and she is perfectly normal, content.

I'm happy to see you, too.

[Evelyn swallows hard, pointer finger anxiously tapping on the guard of her pistol, watching that thing. It opens its eyes and smiles at her.]

Dad, who's this?
