TENTH  FLOOR  |  ROOM  15  |  OTA

( cw: murder and trauma )

[ for many hours, tony's room won't be locked. stand right outside it and you might hear voices talking, the memory playing itself out for the first, the tenth, the twenty-ninth time. the man himself is at the corner, sitting down , back against the wall, watching the scene before it. he won't acknowledge any visitor.

the room is a bunker of a sort. there's nothing but walls made of heavy steel and a screen just in the middle of the room, displaying writings in Russians, it's not very hard to understand it's a date. sometime in 1991.

the two other men in the room with him might be familiar, too. both were residents of wonderland until not very long ago, steve rogers in his uniform and his shield and the man known to many as the winter soldier at his side.

but none of them is talking. a fourth voice is.

an empire toppled by its enemies can rise again but one which crumbles from within, that's dead, forever.

the man known as iron man looks at the screen which now shows a security camera footage of a road at night. I know that road, he says and perhaps one might recognize the beginning of a panic in tony stark's voice. he looks at the date and it seems he realizes what he's about to see and his fear is present when he asks what is this?.

no one answers. perhaps the men with the shield to his right knows what they're about to witness too, he seems on edge.

there's a car crash, sudden and abrupt; but then another movement, a motorcycle pulls at the side. a man with an arm of metal, the same men standing in the room looking not a day older, walks to a figure crawling on the road, a man in a tailored suit and hair that's gone grey, hair that gets pulled as the younger man hoists his upper body up and there's recognition, a question ( sergeant barnes? ) that goes unanswered.

a female voice can be heard ( howard? ) but tony stark takes a moment to look at the man to his left, at sergeant barnes who says nothing, nothing as tony watches him bang an arm of steel against his father's face ( the woman cries, howard?? ) until he dies, until the younger man has to carry his body back into the car, to put him behind the wheel, to stage an accident.

the woman is at the passenger's seat, bloodied and terrified, watching her husband's body at her side. there's a tremble working its way through tony's body as he watches the younger man wraps his good arm around her neck. he chokes the life out of her.

it ends when the younger man points his gun at the camera and shoots it.

it ends with tony moving towards him, fueled by rage, stopped by steve. he turns back.

did you know?

I didn't know it was him -

don't shit me rogers, did you know?

yes.

that's what it happens. tony stark breaks away from steve rogers' hold, he looks at the screen and punches him into the ground.

by the time one reaches his room, tony stark won't try to stop the memory from happening anymore. ]
