[His flippant response is more of a coping mechanism, falling on old habits in times of stress. He's still not particularly used to dealing with it on any level, now that he no longer relies on being able to get whatever he wants with little effort.

Life with mortals isn't nearly so simple, and he's all too mortal these days, in more ways than one.

He turns to look at her briefly as she speaks, his brow furrowing. For a brief moment, he forgets what happens when she's near. He should be able to shrug off a bullet like it's nothing, except when the Detective shot him, he'd bled quite easily.

If he gets shot now, it's not going to bounce off. Then again, if he's going to distract that asshole a moment later, perhaps it's not so bad. He nods at her, not looking nearly as sure of himself as he might have shortly beforehand.]


Why wouldn't we just shoot him right now?
