( damian lifts his legs in protest, and it takes jon—two seconds to realize exactly what he’s trying to accomplish, here. his tiny, human limbs can’t do anything against jon—but jon is sure damian realizes that. still, he wouldn’t ever want to hurt him, which is why he does stop. pauses in place, keeps his grip on damian firm and his eyes focused straight on the struggling boy he’s carrying.
and he doesn’t finish that word, abomination, but it hurts all the same. he has to remember that damian is upset, he doesn’t mean any of it. he’s hurt, screaming and yelling and crying and as much as damian screaming at him like this hurts jon—he’s sure all of it hurts damian even worse.
arms wrap around his neck and jon releases the breath he didn’t realize he had been holding, shifts his grip to hold onto damian at his waist with one arm, while the other moves to pull the door open. it’s two steps out of the threshold before jon lets himself drop onto the ground, still holding damian in his arm, and pushes his body back with his heels until his back is firmly planted against the door.
just in case someone decides to get adventurous and try to get back into the room. once he’s no longer holding damian up, jon moves that hand at his waist up, gently rubs at his back. ) It’s okay, Damian. It’s over. You’re safe. He’s not going to hurt you, or anyone else, I’m sure.
