How is one supposed to contest that, either? They don't have infinite words at their disposal. They aren't poised and ready to counter an argument, step for step. They just have...them, curled here, too stupid to think of something more poignant or convincing than I don't think you're doomed.
Why would anyone believe that? Don't they give people infinite chances? Don't they forgive every wrong, every hurt, every fear without regret? Don't they consistently place others above themselves, no matter the cost of it?
