...yeah.

[Flat, simple agreement. He knew that much about them. And they're right. There isn't much that is worse than not having control.]

[But there are a few things. Or maybe he only thinks so because he got used to it so early on.]

[Maybe it's just that the Worst Thing isn't just one, universal thing.]

it's not always about passivity. sometimes someone...does stand up. someone tries everything they can to stop it. and it--happens anyway.

[Papyrus. There must have been times, lots and lots of times, where it stopped there. But there are plenty of other times where it didn't.]

[He sighs quietly.]

that would be nice, wouldn't it? it would be easier.

[Simple. One anomaly in a hallway. Stop it, and whatever's left of the world survives. One evil anomaly, because that must be what they are, right? Evil. A villain.]

how do villains get made, though? where do they come from? something happened to make them that way, yeah? something pushed them to that point. maybe someone hurt them. maybe there were other villains before them that made them like that. and those villains, what made them? other villains, back before them? and back, and back, and back...and around and around.

[He starts a new row.]

eventually, someone decides that it stops here. someone QUITs. you can break that one chain, maybe a few others, but there's...so many, kid. there's so much of it. if you can't save the whole world, then you just save whatever you can.

[You hold on to what you have. You hold onto anything. One person, one HoPe. In the face of that uncaring universe, it's all you can do. And he's sick of letting go all the time.]

[He gives a soft, mirthless breath of laughter.]

victims. heh, that's how us monsters think of ourselves, isn't it? for awhile there underground, i thought of myself as a victim. it turned out i was...the other thing, huh.
