Who: peggy carter & jane weller
Where: room 515
When: thursday morning
Rating: pg-13ish for potential saucy gossip.
Summary: jane has been staying with peggy during a tough time, which means she's been in the unique position to observe the smaller details of her host's social agenda.
The Story:
Well, it's Thursday. Early morning on a Thursday. And even when she doesn't have a house guest, Peggy is (at best) disinclined to linger too long in someone else's bed. In the weeks before this particular moment, she'd made a point of giving her farewells and returning to the fifth floor before Wednesday night blurred too deep into Thursday morning. Thing is, since shortly before New Year's she's been sharing her own room (giving up her own bed) for a friend. And as happy as Peggy's been to do so, there's something to be said about letting Thursday morning stretch a little too long just to delay crawling into the army cot set up in her room to allow Jane the bed.
Peggy had insisted that Jane keep the bed. It's far too soft for me, anyway.
So! It's early morning on a Thursday, shortly before the sun is set to rise, and Peggy treks back up to the fifth floor with her shoes in her hand. She's far from a mess. She must have taken the time to comb her fingers through her hair and straighten the collar of her blouse and reapply her lipstick.
-- And when she shoulders her door open and shuts it with a gentle nudge, Peggy finds herself stricken by the memory of a few short months she'd spent living with Colleen. Trading night and day shifts in the bed while they worked opposite one another's schedules; sharing dresses; cracking dark jokes about tuberculosis. Having Jane around, no matter the circumstances, has felt a lot like having a roommate again. Like having a friend. Peggy might have resented it more, maybe, had the cause not been worthy. And as such she's found a way to enjoy Jane's company all the more.
Although now she certainly tries to keep quiet upon reentry. It's a small and cramped room, however, and Jane's at least as well-trained as she is. Proceeding unnoticed would be a miracle. Still! Peggy tries. She unbuttons her blouse in favour of a sleeping shirt -- thinking that if she works quickly enough and silently enough she just might be able to make it appear as though she'd returned hours ago while Jane was still asleep.
