Here we are as in olden days, happy golden days of yore | OPEN

Who: E V E R Y O N E (Including our 4th wall guests!)
Where: Everywhere, one both Mirror and Real Side!
When: December 12th - December 18th (WEEK ONE)
Rating: PG-13, warn if going higher
Summary: This year's Ewaymas celebration rolls out the way it usually does, with intense decorating, a sudden snowfall and...far more arrivals than usual! New faces and old fill the mansion - but why would Wonderland bring so many people at once? And why do some of them remember Wonderland?
The Story:

On the evening before December 12th, the captives of Wonderland might be awoken by a loud commotion. Some of it is typical Ewaymas noise, likely familiar to anyone who has been in Wonderland for more than a year – construction sounds and jingle bells as Wonderland decks its own halls quite literally. Garland and lights race down the walls and down the stairs, and stockings appear on the walls for each and every person in Wonderland, embroidered with their names. There are decorative candles everywhere, and all sorts of decorations for every conceivable winter holiday, even if it does not align perfectly to the dates of Ewaymas. Time isn't real, so there will be menorahs and dreidels and Star of Davids even though Hanukkah ended two days prior. And of course, in the front hall, growing straight out of the floor, is a large decorated tree full of ornaments for everyone. And as always, it will have snowed heavily overnight, bringing all of the snow Wonderland will have between now and spring.

There is a second source of commotion in the night though – the sound of a crowd.

Over the course of the night, dozens of new arrivals will appear in Wonderland. Some for the first time. Some wondering how they managed to return with their memories. Others stumbling in with no recollection of ever having been here. Some might be friends from other timelines, other possibilities, and some might even be doubles of people who are already in Wonderland. It's strange for Wonderland to drag so many people into the mansion at once, but everything seems to indicate that they are supposed to be there. They have their own network devices and even have their own stockings on the wall and their own ornaments on the tree – by all accounts, it seems Wonderland expects that they'll be staying, and is treating them like any other new arrivals. Please, make them feel at home and help them settle in nicely.

The first few days will be for catching up with old friends and enjoying the decorations and settling into Wonderland. However, within a couple of days the decorations will start to glitch, much the way corrupted computer graphics might. Lights might change abruptly from multi-color to blue or white, entire décor styles will abruptly change, candle flames will flicker on and off like broken fluorescent lights, and any singing decorations might loop on a beat or two over and over putting you into an eternal hell. Wonderland doesn't seem to be able to stick to one motif, and it can't stop changing. These glitches are occurring on both the Real Side of Wonderland and the Mirror Side.

By the 15th, these glitches will include entire rooms changing into different holiday scenes. These scenes will all be of characters at various winter holidays in the past, the present (in their world), or a possible future. At this point in the event, characters will still be able to navigate the basic mansion and be able to exit these moments easily. These scenes cannot be interacted with – Wonderland seems to consider them another form of decorating. Unlike previous events of this type, these scenes will not loop at first. They will play once, and then Wonderland will glitch and correct itself to be the room it is supposed to be. The scene might play again, but it will be in a different location if it does.

By this point, Wonderland is having an increasingly difficult time holding itself together in a way that makes geographical sense. You might exit one room, even a room that was not previously playing a scene, and find yourself in the kitchen or on the roof instead of in the hallway. You might open a door that you were sure led to your room only to see a ten foot drop to the grounds outside.

This is the mingle log for WEEK ONE! For more information on this part of the event or any questions, please head over to the plot post, or check out our Fourth Wall Master Post for your other Fourth Wall event needs! Prose or [action brackets] are welcome. Please clearly indicate whether your character is on the Real Side or Mirror Side in your top levels. And of course, have fun! ♥

[ ...All right. He'd hoped a brief exchange would be enough for anyone to grow tired of that sort of response, but clearly he underestimated her dedication. ]

You are going to keep this up as long as I'm talking to you, aren't you?

[ Unless. Cullen suddenly looks a little uncertain. ]

--You. Are doing this on purpose?

[ It's- barely even a question.

He couldn't even imagine what sort of Wonderland even would even cause a reaction like that otherwise.

No, this is obviously some silly joke.

This... is most likely just some silly joke.

[From all that he's managed to gather so far, Kol has pieced together that by some miracle, people who have been in this godforsaken hellhole are returning, by and large with memories attached even when those shouldn't exist, still, by the pattern given by Wonderland's return-ees in the past.

But so far, no Rebekah and no Nik, and he doesn't know what that might mean. Maybe they're just trying to make a grand entrance. Maybe Wonderland can't even be bothered to give him anything shaped like something he might want, ever. Whatever.

He notices him, this sharp-dressed suit-and-tie bloke in places with high foot-traffic just...watching people. It would be unsettling if Kol was the sort of person that concerned himself with such people. He slides up behind him with the kind of silence and lack of alert that can only be defined as supernatural. His voice is low and quiet, though slanted just enough to let his curiosity slide through it.]

[ Cullen thinks back. Does he remember an event of that sort? If the effect Dorian described was active right this moment, then Cullen would have to admit that some events have faded to the very corners of his memory, overshadowed by greater disturbances. Truths may at times haunt him, but they are hardly well- or insistently kept secrets.

...No, this does not help him place the man in time. Or himself for that matter. He does recognise him well enough, however, which begs another question entirely:
]

Did you only just return yourself? I was here before, but- I might have been gone for some time.

His face falls at the absolute lack of recognition in her eyes. But it's only there for a second or two before he steels himself. "That's a harder question to answer than you'd think. I've definitely met a version of you here before. But-- in general? Probably not. People don't always remember being in Wonderland when they show up again. It makes for a helluva lotta disconnect sometimes." He chuckles a little and rubs at the back of his neck. That babble probably just makes him sound crazy. Ah, such is the life of a Wonderland resident!

"Anyway. Uh--" he offers a hand for a delayed shake and introduction. "I'm Cisco."
thisismadfreaky: (Default)

[personal profile] thisismadfreaky 2018-12-17 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
A familiar face in this sea of the opposite is welcome, even if it's a face attached to someone who thinks he's a moron. Cisco may have messed up massively here before, but he will never really apologize for fighting for his friends. Sure, it was a lie, but the sentiment still stands.

"Yeah, I do," he admits, rocking back on his heels a bit, offering a slight wave in greeting. "Hey, Georgia."
thisismadfreaky: (Default)

[personal profile] thisismadfreaky 2018-12-17 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
He spins on his heel toward the familiar voice, and then he blinks, confused. "Y- yeah, it's me. Uh--" He frowns. He's never encountered doubles of people in Wonderland before. "So you remember me?" He's a little confused, here, give him a second, Jemma.

[Good. Good, he's actually listening for once and--

Aaaaaand now he's laughing.

Great.

Cisco groans.]
I know how it sounds, but I swear to God, Harry, it's true!

[ Cullen joins the next kiss just as eagerly, does not break it for a moment. He is tempted, too, but Garrett deserves to be taken care of again-- in more than the most immediately satisfying way. The kiss ends with Cullen pulling Garrett to his feet. ]

We do. Just a few minutes of work.

[ Half the floor littered with a history of relapses, the other with opportunities to keep going just as easily. It could wait a while longer. It shouldn't. ]

You'll like the results, I promise.

[ He runs his thumb along Garrett's chin, through a beard more unkempt than he left it. ]

Perhaps a nice shave later?

[ That Cullen only mumbles quietly, almost to himself. There are more enticing rewards he could offer, he knows, but Maker, he missed the small things. ]

[...Okay, there's a lot going on in that greeting, none of it expected. Except the confirmation that Bismuth is a Crystal Gem, which is also supported by getting a closer look at her. Although logically there's nothing stopping a Homeworld Bismuth from showing up, the stars on this one still just sort of seemed somehow inevitable.

(This DOES look a lot like the bismuth way back then. Lapis has a good memory. The details aren't all the same, but it's hard to be sure with people who redesign themselves so freely. And what would that even mean, here and now? What could she possibly be expected to make of that? She's uneasy on an extremely visceral level, but again, she was going to be uneasy no matter what.)

For her own part, Lapis is still not a Crystal Gem, but decides not to correct that just this moment. She folds her arms, and the wings are still decisively staying out, but she sounds a lot more concerned this time.]

Sure thing, shuffle them, and the pick two, and we'll see what you've got ahead.

for freya.
( he's certainly not in kansas anymore.

the odd thing is: he doesn't remember leaving wonderland, but waking up facedown in snow deep in the woods is disturbingly familiar, considering it's how he arrived during his first — or second, depending on how you look at it — adventure here. is this a horrible prank? another unwelcome event?

he has all his limbs, his memory, and his phone in his pocket. the air is like ice in his lungs as he looks through the foliage to the lights of the mansion. he's already scrolling the list of contacts for caroline's number (it's not there, he realizes with a violent pull at his gut) and then with breath held, finding freya's (and kol's) —

— before arriving in the great hall in less than a moment later, snow-bitten and damp, but none the worse for wear.

the startling lights, the hanging, festive decorations, and ominous stockings do not comfort him with holiday joy in the least. december was a month ago. a month ago. he's been gone for over a year. without wasting another moment, he's in front of freya's door, knocking loudly and incessantly.
)

open.
( nothing is quite right nor the same here in wonderland, a year past and left changed, but klaus finds his old haunts in the ensuing week. they are a familiarity, if not a comfort. he visits the tea room on the second floor, nursing a drink in front of the fire. he visits damon's old bar for other drinks. obviously there's a pattern here: he's found quite a few reasons to drink.

eventually, he also finds his way to the stables, where he can be found quietly brushing two horses left there long ago, unbothered by the cold.
)

[Actual magic? Stanford looks intrigued, but suspicious. That's exactly what a charlatan would say. But real magic would be so amazing, though! But that's just what this man wants Ford to think. Hrmmm, a conundrum.

Ford turns the card deck over in his hands, quickly checking for stage-magician irregularities in the card sizes that might make the shuffling a little less random. Even if this isn't that kind of card trick, Stanford still wants to know.
]

Hmmm. I don't see any marks.

[He shuffles them carefully in his small, six-fingered hands.]

So, a three-card spread. That means that each one of them is supposed to represent my past, present, and future. Correct?

[He draws them and lays them out on the table in a neat row.]
changeitroundsome: (Have to make a little bit of mischief)

[Facilier is not used to people knowing his name- not in the general sense, anyway. The denizens of the Quarter usually just refer to him in hushed whispers as 'The Shadowman' almost never by his actual name.

People he doesn't recognise at all sure don't know his name, so this? This makes him all kinds of antsy. His whole M.O is built on people not seeing behind the smoke and mirrors- the thought someone knows him doesn't sit well.

Still, he manages a smile, outwardly pleasant, but there's a strain to it. Who the hell is this woman?

[He is clearly the nicest man. Tohru's ceaseless leaning towards generosity had piqued his interest though. He does so very much love an easy mark.

He grins, leaning forward on his table, resting his chin in his hand.
]

My, how very kind of you. Wouldn't say no to a good meal. Sure, kid, why not.

[He passes his tarot cards over.]

Shuffle them, and pick three.

[personal profile] changeitroundsome 2018-12-17 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's very true, you can't con a con, and the comment makes Facilier raise his eyebrows. Interesting. He's always been one of the few fish in New Orleans' metaphorical pond. Most other grifters very quickly found somewhere else to be. ]

I always find the best clients [he says the word pointedly, but not for Molly's benefit- any bystander can assume he's take offence to the use mark, where he absolutely has not] are the sort who've got it pretty good- but believe they needs more.

[Like Lawrence. He didn't really need what Facilier offered him. Yes, he was a servant, but a servant to a royal family. He was well kept, enough to be fat in a time where poverty was rife. But he overreached, and Facilier was right there to help him along.]

But sure, I wouldn't mind a lil' company while I work. You might attract a few more folks over.

[personal profile] changeitroundsome 2018-12-17 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's never really been out of Louisiana either. You need money to travel, and Facilier sure doesn't have that. Her question doubles as a snippet into her life. Ah, so she's died too, interesting. ]

Yes. And no. There's worse things, than being shuffled off the mortal coil.

[His dead, but he's also absolutely not.]

Seems this place caught me just in time. So, how'd it happen for you?
indirectcause: (Comes a time you've gotta face it)

[personal profile] indirectcause 2018-12-17 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have anything else back home. Like...literally. I- I think I died.

[He's absolutely certain he died. He doesn't have any of the wounds his fall left, nor the bullet wound he knows put him out of his misery. But it still happened. This is it for him.]

I haven't but I'll try just about anything, honestly. I'm not fussy.

She isn't the only one she knows if Wonderland that is happy to be there because the alternative is worst. Zombies. War torn countries. A lot that means going back is more miserable than events.

Death that. It hits her hard and she doesn't try and hide it. Looking down, shifting to tug her shawl tighter around her before looking back up at him.]

[He startles at the sound of his own name, turning to stare at the girl who spoke to him. There's no recognition at first, and his brows knit together in confusion. How...did she know his name?]

I'm sorry I don't- [he looks around them] do you know where we-

[He finally clocks the hat. It's older, more moth-eaten than when he last saw it. But there's no mistaking that hat. His gaze drops back down to her, putting her features together- he puts two and two together and somehow comes out with five. ]

...Clementine?

[What the actual fuck is happening? She looks like her, but...well, this sure isn't a nine year old girl. ]

[ Well look at him go, it seems he's no mere charlatan after all. His craft and performance earn him an amused smile, even if the memories of her past and how she deserved to rule-- only for it to be taken from her-- is still a blow to her pride. But who needs any of that when she is what she is now? ]

Continue.

[ The markings on the cards are foreign to her, and the significance of their titles and numbers is lost to her. It is a kind of divination, that much she can tell, but it is beyond her time. ] My present.

[It's kinda nice, seeing an adult who cares about a kid under her care. Really cares. It's something he's seen a lot more of in Wonderland- something very much lacking in his life experience back home. It's still taking some getting used to.

He is genuinely sad they couldn't find Alice- her Alice. It was a logn shot, but still, it was shot.
]

Never seen it, myself. Never really spent any time in big cities. But Wonderland does have its 'wow this is insane bullshit' thing going for it. So there's that.

Regina'd just been crowned and gave a speech to well, just about everyone, really. Hard to believe that all happened. Equally hard to believe someone or something didn't show up to ruin it.

[She can't be the only one surprised by that.]

And is she still here? What about Henry?
