Here we are as in olden days, happy golden days of yore | OPEN

Who: E V E R Y O N E (Including our 4th wall guests!)
Where: Everywhere, one both Mirror and Real Side!
When: December 12th - December 18th (WEEK ONE)
Rating: PG-13, warn if going higher
Summary: This year's Ewaymas celebration rolls out the way it usually does, with intense decorating, a sudden snowfall and...far more arrivals than usual! New faces and old fill the mansion - but why would Wonderland bring so many people at once? And why do some of them remember Wonderland?
The Story:

On the evening before December 12th, the captives of Wonderland might be awoken by a loud commotion. Some of it is typical Ewaymas noise, likely familiar to anyone who has been in Wonderland for more than a year – construction sounds and jingle bells as Wonderland decks its own halls quite literally. Garland and lights race down the walls and down the stairs, and stockings appear on the walls for each and every person in Wonderland, embroidered with their names. There are decorative candles everywhere, and all sorts of decorations for every conceivable winter holiday, even if it does not align perfectly to the dates of Ewaymas. Time isn't real, so there will be menorahs and dreidels and Star of Davids even though Hanukkah ended two days prior. And of course, in the front hall, growing straight out of the floor, is a large decorated tree full of ornaments for everyone. And as always, it will have snowed heavily overnight, bringing all of the snow Wonderland will have between now and spring.

There is a second source of commotion in the night though – the sound of a crowd.

Over the course of the night, dozens of new arrivals will appear in Wonderland. Some for the first time. Some wondering how they managed to return with their memories. Others stumbling in with no recollection of ever having been here. Some might be friends from other timelines, other possibilities, and some might even be doubles of people who are already in Wonderland. It's strange for Wonderland to drag so many people into the mansion at once, but everything seems to indicate that they are supposed to be there. They have their own network devices and even have their own stockings on the wall and their own ornaments on the tree – by all accounts, it seems Wonderland expects that they'll be staying, and is treating them like any other new arrivals. Please, make them feel at home and help them settle in nicely.

The first few days will be for catching up with old friends and enjoying the decorations and settling into Wonderland. However, within a couple of days the decorations will start to glitch, much the way corrupted computer graphics might. Lights might change abruptly from multi-color to blue or white, entire décor styles will abruptly change, candle flames will flicker on and off like broken fluorescent lights, and any singing decorations might loop on a beat or two over and over putting you into an eternal hell. Wonderland doesn't seem to be able to stick to one motif, and it can't stop changing. These glitches are occurring on both the Real Side of Wonderland and the Mirror Side.

By the 15th, these glitches will include entire rooms changing into different holiday scenes. These scenes will all be of characters at various winter holidays in the past, the present (in their world), or a possible future. At this point in the event, characters will still be able to navigate the basic mansion and be able to exit these moments easily. These scenes cannot be interacted with – Wonderland seems to consider them another form of decorating. Unlike previous events of this type, these scenes will not loop at first. They will play once, and then Wonderland will glitch and correct itself to be the room it is supposed to be. The scene might play again, but it will be in a different location if it does.

By this point, Wonderland is having an increasingly difficult time holding itself together in a way that makes geographical sense. You might exit one room, even a room that was not previously playing a scene, and find yourself in the kitchen or on the roof instead of in the hallway. You might open a door that you were sure led to your room only to see a ten foot drop to the grounds outside.

This is the mingle log for WEEK ONE! For more information on this part of the event or any questions, please head over to the plot post, or check out our Fourth Wall Master Post for your other Fourth Wall event needs! Prose or [action brackets] are welcome. Please clearly indicate whether your character is on the Real Side or Mirror Side in your top levels. And of course, have fun! ♥

[It truly would have been a sight to see. They could have charged a good packet for it, too.]

And that works for you? Followin' your gut? Don't it get you in trouble? It has to sometimes.

[Facilier can't work that way. He needs layers upon layers of plans. Fallbacks, escape routes, backups. Honestly, if Tiana hadn't gone and got herself in love with that idiot prince, he's pretty sure he would have convinced her to take the deal and he'd of been sitting pretty. Belatedly, he realises he probably shouldn't have brought up her daddy. That was a misstep, he played by his gut and played wrong. Lesson learned. ]
changeitroundsome: (Tell me I'm a bad man)

[personal profile] changeitroundsome 2019-01-03 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh yes, there it is. The stab in the heart, the delicious moment of weakness that people with good hearts always have. There's always some tragedy there, something to pull apart, something to make them...useful. Facilier manages an understanding smile, as he files all this away for later.]

They sound mighty kind folk. Not a lot like them 'round any more. Seems you really lucked out when you found them.

[He grins, tapping the aforementioned card.]

Thank you, I've been workin' hard of this for a while. Though most of it is just real magic. Do you want to see more?

[He doesn't care if she does or not- but he can pretend he does.]
changeitroundsome: (Ain't nothing in this world for free)

[personal profile] changeitroundsome 2019-01-03 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes, we are in a more magical world, now. Don't that means that there can be magical folk here, too? Can you completely rule out that I might have myself some real magic of my own?
mourning_ghost: (quiet)

[personal profile] mourning_ghost 2019-01-03 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
[His easy acceptance is reassuring.]

What ingredients do you need?

[Nageki might be able to help get them.]

[ Claire can't help her smirk of satisfaction as she looks at him steadily, then cants her head to the side. ]

Something wrong?

[ This is going better than she thought it would, and she smooths her skirts. ]

I don't suppose one earns the title La Dame Blanche for no good reason.
eatsyourscience: (you can stand under my umbrella)

[personal profile] eatsyourscience 2019-01-03 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Sure. What kind?

[He's only ever tried it once, but he knows what they're supposed to look like and what goes in them, so hey, he'll give it a shot.]
wickedwest: (Wait no I didn't)

[personal profile] wickedwest 2019-01-03 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Have to say I know what's that like. I was usually behind everyone else when I was here. Can't say I really cared for it.

[Probably not much of a surprise there.]
eatsyourscience: (too late to go back to sleep)

[personal profile] eatsyourscience 2019-01-03 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods. Soup it is. Vegetable soup because that's easy enough.]

It's going to sound strange, but we traveled through television screens.

I don't know. I never got the chance to test something like that with the black garnet.

[Though now she absolutely wants to try.]

The contact was fine-- if slightly awkward, but it barely registered to Jean. He scooted over on instinct to stay close as well, and was totally comfortable with their shoulders touching as he played the game.

"You use this thing I've got in my hands here. The buttons correspond to the stuff the character on screen can do. My old roommate could play any game without practicing at all, so there's some kind of sense to it that I don't have a handle on yet... but I've got this one down, so I play it a lot."

Jean ran his character around, and had him swing his giant sword a few times. They were in the safe hubworld, so no monsters would show up here to attack him.

[Unfortunately, Jean wasn't an empathetic enough person to pick up on the subtle change in Mikasa's mood, much less interpret it correctly. He only caught that she was lagging behind, and he raised an eyebrow at her slight stagger.]

No no no. [He shook his head, almost vehemently.] Not just bread. I won't allow it. You've at least got to have some meat here. They've got all the best cuts, perfectly cooked. Sasha would eat herself to death here.

What's the kind they love so much in America? California Rolls? Cucumber, and crab... and something else.
uncoils: (You can see it when the smoke clears)

[personal profile] uncoils 2019-01-03 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
...yeah. I don't get it, and I'm not really happy about seeing it, but...

[She sighs, not really being able to argue with that.]

It'd be nice to get a moment with everybody like that, even if it is impossible.
curiousher: (How curious!)

[personal profile] curiousher 2019-01-03 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

[She takes the plate graciously, and bites one of the leaves off the tree. She didn't ask a whole lot of follow-up questions either, so she's pleasantly surprised when it's gingerbread.]

Oh! Steven, this is really good! Better than I could have done, certainly. Do you bake a lot?
choosetruth: (bex2)

[Even with the sunglasses, it's clear she's rolling her eyes.]

Don't be absurd. I'll simply do my research. Right now? I'm just asking for your name. I have no doubt I can find it if I search the network enough. Of course, I'll probably find a lot of other information too. Do you have any secrets? You won't when I'm done.
rosswood: if you don't have friends (how to make a movie)

Terrifying.

[The word is a dry slap. His death has been projected on the network at least once, as has his...unique effect on electronics. By the way, George - better check your cameras when this is done. Make sure none of them have gotten too fuzzed up by his presence.]

[He has that effect on things.]

I don't put all my secrets online. [Unlike some people he could name.]

...you've lost your memories before is all. The version of you that was here before told me about it.

( He told her about a lot, and she told him about a lot too. It was the kind of talking that she's not able to do with most people honestly, and so she remembers all those conversations.

They stay with her. The things he told her. )
postictal: (i have too many "tim is sad" caps tbh)

[personal profile] postictal 2019-01-03 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
[He got to telling her about that, did he?]

[Hard to say if that had to do with some kind of...mutual trust, or what. Given her reaction to him, he'd assume as much. Something important. It wasn't just any old acquaintanceship.]

[It really wasn't.]

He was right. I guess that's something he had to live with here, too.

[Jay watches him, silent. He liked music. He's drawing the line between the scruffy, weathered man in front of him and the incrementally paler, softer-edged one Jay spent the past year and a half pestering with questions, panicked nocturnal visits, and the rare moment of half-decent company. The one who liked music, the one who'd saved his ass more times than Jay liked to admit, the one who lit the Mansion up and nearly brought Jay down with it--this isn't that one. This one didn't live with the long stretches of boredom, the blank periods, the stir-crazy times when you had to do something with your hands or they'd wind up around somebody else's throat.]

[This one just didn't have time. It's hard to have hobbies on a deserted island.]

Yeah. He did.

[His gaze is down at the camera, digging his finger into the velcro closure holding the padding onto the grip. He'll write this all down later. It's fine. It's fine.]

Guess this could be some time off, assuming we can get you back. [His voice is flat. He thinks of something somebody said to him one of the first times he was laid off--maybe Brian, maybe even Alex, maybe someone he's forgotten.] Enforced vacation.
waitin: (033)

[personal profile] waitin 2019-01-03 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
I... try. I know how to survive.

( She won't let his sacrifice be wasted. Clementine's throat kind of locks up, folding her arms across her chest, as she breathes through that feeling. )

I do now at least.

( Now she would never trust the voice on the other side of the walkie talkie. She'd have killed him in an instant. )
postictal: (that boy needs therapy)

[personal profile] postictal 2019-01-03 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Vacation is supposed to relax you.

[Too many parts of him are wound up in worry. Even if time is stalled out while he's here, the way things are back home - is there any guarantee of that? There are too many people he needs to return to. People who aren't dead. People who he can still help.]

[That doesn't mean he can't spare whatever time he has.]

I'm not sure it counts as time off, when there's too much you need to return to.
burntvideocassette: (a defeated jay)

[personal profile] burntvideocassette 2019-01-03 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
[It isn't wrong, but it's uncanny. Tim must've really put down roots on that desert island. This is the same guy who worked extra shifts so he could quit his job, so he could spend months sleeping in grimy hotel rooms and the backseat of his car. Now he's got too much he needs to return to.]

[Then again, Tim was always the one who thought there was going to be an after all this. Always kept one foot in--not the real world, exactly, but the world other people lived in, the ones he passed on the sidewalk or on the freeway.]

[He's thinking of the right thing to say. Something like you must really care about them, huh? or we'll get you back. Something some jacked bodybuilder-turned-actor in an action movie would say to his buddy, before clapping the other guy on the back.]

[Instead, what comes out is a rueful snort and:]

I haven't got shit to go back to.

[No. Fix it, you self-flagellating, guilt-tripping asshole. He's found stability, and you're just gonna undercut that? You're gonna try and make him feel sorry because you got yourself shot?]

I mean--no, I've got--It's not. It's okay. We'll get you-- [Too late for that. The whole tone of the scene's thrown off.] You'll go back. You should go back. And it's not--for me, back--back there, it's better. Than it was. Like, I'm not...it's better. I've got--

[He's got a whole ████ to learn, to map out, even with his head buzzing like he's got wires buried in his brain. He's got people to find, blood-soaked and caved-in like him. He's got cracks to press his ear to, places where the walls fracture, where one day he might be able to slip something through.]

[There are questions left unanswered.]

[His voice softens as the realization sets in.]

I...do have something. To get back to.
freckilled: (huh?)

does Jean have Katamari Damacy? Marco would love Katamari Damacy

[personal profile] freckilled 2019-01-03 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
It's only awkward because you're a repressed only child, Jean. Marco Lots-of-Siblings Bott doesn't think this is awkward or weird at all, and he leans right back when Jean leans against him.

He watches with interest at what Jean is doing, trying to figure out what buttons make the character on the screen move, but he can't quite figure it out. He's also a bit at a loss for how Jean manages to not be looking at his hands the whole time.

"Can I try it?" Running around and flailing with a sword makes sense, even if the thought of using that sword makes Marco vaguely ill. What, exactly, is Jean's character supposed to attack with that?
entreats: (she'll find someone to need her)

[personal profile] entreats 2019-01-03 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Her slight pause indicates that yes, she does think it's strange. And that's coming from someone who acknowledges her own world is strange as hell too. ]

I take that as meaning television screens aren't a normal mode of transporation in your world. [ Since he also calls it strange. Ange puts her elbows on the counter so she can rest her chin on her hands. ] Did you just.. move through the screen?
entreats: (she's seeing too clearly)

[personal profile] entreats 2019-01-03 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, never say never.

[ Says the girl who is pessimistic as hell about herself. But sshh, she can be a hypocrite when it's just important to her to not make friends feel bad. ]

This place is so weird that it could just bring us to parallel worlds one time for an event. Then you'd at least be able to experience it for a while yourself.
