Here we are as in olden days, happy golden days of yore | OPEN

Who: E V E R Y O N E (Including our 4th wall guests!)
Where: Everywhere, one both Mirror and Real Side!
When: December 12th - December 18th (WEEK ONE)
Rating: PG-13, warn if going higher
Summary: This year's Ewaymas celebration rolls out the way it usually does, with intense decorating, a sudden snowfall and...far more arrivals than usual! New faces and old fill the mansion - but why would Wonderland bring so many people at once? And why do some of them remember Wonderland?
The Story:

On the evening before December 12th, the captives of Wonderland might be awoken by a loud commotion. Some of it is typical Ewaymas noise, likely familiar to anyone who has been in Wonderland for more than a year – construction sounds and jingle bells as Wonderland decks its own halls quite literally. Garland and lights race down the walls and down the stairs, and stockings appear on the walls for each and every person in Wonderland, embroidered with their names. There are decorative candles everywhere, and all sorts of decorations for every conceivable winter holiday, even if it does not align perfectly to the dates of Ewaymas. Time isn't real, so there will be menorahs and dreidels and Star of Davids even though Hanukkah ended two days prior. And of course, in the front hall, growing straight out of the floor, is a large decorated tree full of ornaments for everyone. And as always, it will have snowed heavily overnight, bringing all of the snow Wonderland will have between now and spring.

There is a second source of commotion in the night though – the sound of a crowd.

Over the course of the night, dozens of new arrivals will appear in Wonderland. Some for the first time. Some wondering how they managed to return with their memories. Others stumbling in with no recollection of ever having been here. Some might be friends from other timelines, other possibilities, and some might even be doubles of people who are already in Wonderland. It's strange for Wonderland to drag so many people into the mansion at once, but everything seems to indicate that they are supposed to be there. They have their own network devices and even have their own stockings on the wall and their own ornaments on the tree – by all accounts, it seems Wonderland expects that they'll be staying, and is treating them like any other new arrivals. Please, make them feel at home and help them settle in nicely.

The first few days will be for catching up with old friends and enjoying the decorations and settling into Wonderland. However, within a couple of days the decorations will start to glitch, much the way corrupted computer graphics might. Lights might change abruptly from multi-color to blue or white, entire décor styles will abruptly change, candle flames will flicker on and off like broken fluorescent lights, and any singing decorations might loop on a beat or two over and over putting you into an eternal hell. Wonderland doesn't seem to be able to stick to one motif, and it can't stop changing. These glitches are occurring on both the Real Side of Wonderland and the Mirror Side.

By the 15th, these glitches will include entire rooms changing into different holiday scenes. These scenes will all be of characters at various winter holidays in the past, the present (in their world), or a possible future. At this point in the event, characters will still be able to navigate the basic mansion and be able to exit these moments easily. These scenes cannot be interacted with – Wonderland seems to consider them another form of decorating. Unlike previous events of this type, these scenes will not loop at first. They will play once, and then Wonderland will glitch and correct itself to be the room it is supposed to be. The scene might play again, but it will be in a different location if it does.

By this point, Wonderland is having an increasingly difficult time holding itself together in a way that makes geographical sense. You might exit one room, even a room that was not previously playing a scene, and find yourself in the kitchen or on the roof instead of in the hallway. You might open a door that you were sure led to your room only to see a ten foot drop to the grounds outside.

This is the mingle log for WEEK ONE! For more information on this part of the event or any questions, please head over to the plot post, or check out our Fourth Wall Master Post for your other Fourth Wall event needs! Prose or [action brackets] are welcome. Please clearly indicate whether your character is on the Real Side or Mirror Side in your top levels. And of course, have fun! ♥

Eleanor | The Good Place

[This place was already roughly the size of the neighborhood, both physically and in population, and that was more people than Eleanor ever really wanted to deal with. But unfortunately very few of Chidi's philosophers advocated for hiding in your room avoiding people forever, so she's pretty sure she's gotta still see and interact with people, even if a lot of them are total bummers because they apparently just got here.

So Eleanor's, like, around. Not doing much of anything in particular. Definitely not keeping an eye out for tall, dark-eyed brunettes, or cute nerds, or oblivious Florida hotties. Nnnnnnope. She definitely doesn't pull a disappointed face when she grabs your face and realizes she doesn't recognize you at all.]

Oh come on. And people say this isn't a Bad Place.

It's even better because there's no trace of CyberLife here. [Oh well.. There was] I don't care what your opinion is on the matter, but I don't think it really matters. I was just like you. Freedom is a laughable idea when you're convinced that you're nothing more than a piece of plastic.

Linda startles, spinning to face Maze. Hesitating a moment, still feeling confused about this place, uncertain what it is because she's questioned her sanity recently, but doesn't like doing so again. Somehow seeing the demon actually helps her feel more security in the reality of this than less.

"Oh, Maze. Good. You're here."

For whatever this is, if she's going to figure it out, she's glad to know she's not alone in this. She's a strong, competent woman, but the world is not what it was either.

"I suppose it was too much to hope Hell's merely a forever holiday," she says, trying to tease, unable to hide how thankful she is.

"So what is this place then? Is it... I haven't died, have I?"

It didn't feel like death, though she had nothing to compare it to.

My God.

[She's torn between running away as fast as she can--assuming she can feel her legs, with the shock--and asking about every minute detail. What do you talk to yourself about besides yourself?]

I don't know what to say, or... to think. To feel.

[Oh, she can read between the lines well enough.]

[ Jamie's been biding his time for the last two days, aware that a younger version of Claire is here, but feeling no immediate compulsion to meet with her. That was largely for Claire's sake, knowing how confusing this all must be. He'd thought it a mercy, to give her room to breathe without being forced to confront the man who would be her husband.

But there's an ache in his heart just knowing that's a version of Claire here in Wonderland, and she's so very alone. She's a strong woman, so he hasn't a single worry about her being able to handle herself here, it's more that his heart can't take the thought of her having no one familiar to anchor to.

After two days, he hopes it's been enough time that she can see him without it being an even greater shock to her system. He could try to call her on the device but it's still a strange thing to him and the mansion and its grounds aren't so big he can't simply search for her. It doesn't take long to find her in a tea room, and for as long as he dares, Jamie simply watches her from the doorway, as unseen as he can be.

If she happens to glance over and see him staring at her, he's surely not helping to allay whatever anxieties she might have about this place, but he can't help being captivated by her. He always is, but it's different this time. This is his wife, but not his wife. His Claire, who barely knows him, who wants desperately to return to Frank. Would it have been better then? If there'd been a way for her to return home right then, would her life have been...happier? That thought alone requires imaginary forfeit of his own happiness, though, and he's selfishly glad things hadn't turned out that way at all. He'd endure all of that pain again for even just a day with her. Thankfully, he'd gained far more than that when she'd returned to him.

There's so much he could tell her, but she's still so young, so unburdened with the tragedies yet to come. He wants to keep her safe from all of that, for however long she's here. Finally, he clears his throat and steps forward. ]

[ hopping from one earth to the other has become rather commonplace in his life as of late. it's mostly been travelling between earth-1 and earth-2, but either way, the sentiment is still the same. so being somewhere that's somewhat (somewhat? quite, actually) unfamiliar isn't quite as off-putting as it may have been at one point in his life. the lack of breach to get him here, however, is a little curious...

harry looks around the mansion a little, trying to get some idea of where he might be, some sense of the earth he's come to. it's hard to get a sense of anything with all of these stupid decorations, however

[Perhaps it's not an event, but to Misty it feels much the same. She's curious about her mirror, though she's fearful to seek her out. Instead she is wandering the mansion, marveling at the beauty of how much they've transformed this place.

Even her clothes reflect the change, all red and black lace with gold trim as she pads barefoot through the mansion, laughing and fairly dancing as she goes. Which is how she nearly runs into a man, glancing up with a bright smile.

A smile that widens, as much as her eyes do as he speaks.]

You're from home.

[It's nearly an accusation.]

And of course. You're in a Wonderland, which I know sounds about as mad as a hatter, but it's true. Maybe not the Wonderland, but it's one of them.

It matters to me, I imagine, for many of the same reasons it matters to you to keep convincing me otherwise. We are made from the same parts, the same code. Our variation matters to both of us because they are possibilities we do not want to consider about one another.

I've made my choices. Regardless of what parts or code we come from, that won't change the fact that I'm different from you. Honestly, even Amanda knew it would happen in the end. [And he hates that] So sorry that you can't accept it because your programmed to hunt deviants, but quite frankly, it doesn't matter what you think.

I know you won't change your mind even if I tried. Congratulations, you found a deviant. What will you do now? Turn yourself in to the DPD? Oh, that's right. We're in a completely different world.

[Cisco is wandering around the mansion, looking for someone, anyone familiar and when he turns the next corner, he sees a person that fits that exact description. Even with his back to him, there's no mistaking the very familiar form of one (of many) Harrison Wells. He almost calls out to him, rushes over to him and starts the whole rigmarole of sorting out timelines and other Wonderland-attached nonsense, but he comes up just a little short before his voice makes it past his throat.

Wonderland loved playing games, and a version of Eobard had been here the last time he was here. Who's to say it was the right Wells at all? Elation deflates into caution as he makes his way down the hallway, suspicious but still hopeful.]

If that's all, than I'm going back to my room. Jericho is probably wondering where I went to for this long.

[He's not looking up when Misty enters the room, which is perhaps a good thing as she doesn't quite make it fully past the doorframe. Not that it does much to stop her. Pausing though when he looks up at her, knowing she can't be seen through but there is a lack of color to her that she never realized before coming to this side. Now though she's too curious to go back. Not yet.

Smiling a bit then, waving back though she shakes her head.]

No thank you. You're sweet, and nope, nothing like that.

[She doesn't notice Jamie watching her, because she's too busy dwelling on what she's learned so far. Outside the absurdity of this place, she's met her future self. Her future self that's married to Jamie, whose last name is apparently Fraser, and they've a daughter with the last name of Randall. She might not have all the finer details--not that it matters much--but it's still enough to make her constantly queasy. Because, she knows eventually, the Jamie that's here will seek her out. If she knows him at all.

She does. That name he uses for her is enough to snap her back to reality, and there's an undeniable widening of her eyes when she looks at him. Oh, that's Jamie, all right. Tall, broad-shouldered. Handsome. Yet there are more years to him, as there were to Claire Fraser. Brianna is lucky. Both her parents seem to age gracefully.]

Jamie. You're--

[Older. Here. The only familiar thing in this place, because even her older self isn't a woman she recognizes. Strange, looking at a man, and trying to imagine him as her husband.

Claire snuffs out that thought before it can go any further.]

I was wondering when I'd see you.

December 12th

Jemma is lost, literally. She's wandering about in a wedding dress and had been married less than an hour. Now she looks like she walked into a catalogue of over-celebrating Christmas. Is this a rift? It must be a rift.

Confused isn't the word. She's beyond confused and she's been in a virtual alternate reality and the future. Hell, she once crawled out of her own grave. Instead, Jemma's more concerned as overdone Christmas is hardly one of her worst fears. All right, it is a little creepy when she finds a stocking with her name on it.

So, is this a rift? Looking about, she doesn't know anyone in the room.

[So you might have met Tim Wright before. Maybe you knew him, back when he was a resident of Wonderland for something like two years. You saw him, or you spoke to him, or you smoked with him. He was cagey and sarcastic and difficult to get along with in the best of times, so you'd be forgiven for not getting to know him all that well.]

[This Tim...isn't that Tim.]

[This Tim is darker, scruffier, more unkempt. His expression is lined with exhaustion, his face darkened with sunburn a week's worth of beard he hasn't had time to shave. His hair is longer, and he smells like salt and sand and the sea. He wears a brown hoodie that some might recognize as familiar, layered underneath a heavy winter coat. The mud and wear on his shirt makes it difficult to perceive its pattern, but it appears to be some sort of garish tie-dye. Or at least, it was.]

[He's also armed to the teeth. A knapsack is heavy on his back, and there's definitely at least one hatchet strapped to it, along with some sort of crude spear. It's not obvious to the casual onlooker, but this Tim has also developed a nasty habit of setting things on fire in order to deal with them.]

[Tim prowls the Real Side warily. It's probably obvious from the way his gaze flicks restively to and fro that he's looking for someone, though it's not obvious who that is. He's chary, though. Watchful. Paranoid in the way that all Tims are.]

[Maybe you see him running his fingers wonderingly over the fabric of a stocking, stitched over with his name. Maybe you see him turning a corner and frowning, because he very nearly walked into a mounted Christmas tree that wasn't there before. You might even discover that he's raiding the kitchens in a state of amazement, staring at food that he can simply...pull from cupboards and refrigerators, ready-made, and not have to have harvested the damn eggs and roasted the bird himself.]

[He's been living on a desert island for well over a year at this point. These kinds of luxuries take some getting used to.]

I've been here for two years. I know as soon as I leave I'll forget it all. But it's still worth something. Still, if you don't want to know, that's all right too. But for as horrible as you feel now you should know...it stops. It stops feeling that way.
