But, it's only a second or two. He catches his hand on the trap door as he falls (the window frame, on his side) and ultimately only falls about two feet total. Two feet is enough for an entire damn lifetime though, thanks.
With a grunt, he does the world's most stressful pull-up and pushes his arms through the trap door. Once he does that though, it starts to go a lot more smoothly. He's top-heavy, so once his arms are through he has enough leverage to start pulling himself back into the Mystery Room.
Granted, it's not very graceful, especially on the Mystery Room side of things where it's a lot of undignified pulling and wiggling, but it doesn't have to be as long as it saves his life. He's a little stuck once he gets about halfway there since his legs don't have much to push against but hey - it's better than where he was! ...Kind of. He'll figure it out once he looks around and makes sure that guy's not going to immediately try and kick him out the trap door again.]
