Where: Anywhere outside on Real Side, but mostly in the gardens!

Summary: Alice has invited everyone, Reals and Mirrors alike, to come color outside in the nice spring weather with magic chalk. Surely nothing could go wrong with that plan, right?
The Story:

Outside, the weather is absolutely beautiful. It's not too hot, but not too cold either, and no one would have ever realized there was snow on the ground yesterday if they hadn't been here to see it. The grass is green and everything is dry - no sign of melted snow anywhere at all. Flowers have begun to bloom and it truly looks as though it's been spring for some time already. The season has changed abruptly and now Wonderland's decided it's time for it to be nice out.

There are many paths through the gardens, the vendors, and the hedge maze that can be drawn on, but as Alice demonstrated in her post, there's no need at all to stick to pavement only. Even the air can be decorated with living drawings!

This is a log for people who want to come color outside or people who want to check out what others are doing out here. It isn't strictly to interact with Alice, but she'll be around and will have a top level.

[Steven looks like he was about to take a bite into a chakly doughnut when the chalkpocalypse occurred. Now here he is, lying in the puddle of its remains. At first, he simply cries out in response to what just happened.]

Nooo!! [Them, he becomes aware of Lapis and her question.] Oh! Um, I'm alright. I think. But I can't say the same for Chalk City...

What? [This isn't a reaction Lapis expected, and she halts up trying to process it, as well as the sudden start of a feeling that she might have done something wrong. But she was helping???] I got you out. I-it's okay now.

Um, thanks! [He says, with a sheepish smile. He doesn't want to make Lapis feel bad...] But it's alright. It wasn't dangerous or anything. It was... like home. Just chalky!

[Well, Lapis may be irrational sometimes, but she isn't stupid. Also, she knows she's irrational sometimes, considering that she did come a long way from getting spooked by video chat. She gives him a long perturbed, studying stare and then sighs. Rest assured that she would proceed to aim a solid deadpan at herself if that were possible.]

...You wanted to be in there, didn't you.

[Not a desire she particularly grasps, and really how was she to know, but whoops. Somehow that figures.]

[He scratches at his head.]

Y-yeah. I made it 'cause I missed home, and I went inside to see how lifelike it was. And... it wasn't perfect, but it was really nice! [He waves his hands in the air calmly.] But it's okay, Lapis! You didn't know.

[Lapis winces sheepishly.]

Sorry, Steven. I didn't mean to ruin something that reminded you of home.

[Even if she would never ever ever jump into a chalk drawing herself, she knows how important that is.]

It's alright. [He's quick to reassure her.] It's not like it was really home. And I can always just re-draw it! [He holds up his chalk.]

We could draw places that you miss, too! [He'll just put that out there, just in case.]

[Lapis isn't totally sure what to do with that suggestion; her feelings about any place she can think of are complicated in one way or another at present. But she does brighten up a bit, albeit awkwardly, eager for the chance to make up for ruining Steven's fun.]

Oh, um, I can help if you want. I don't know Beach City that well, though.

Well, that's okay. [He says with a reassuring smile while he offers her some chalk.] It doesn't have to look exactly like Beach City. In fact, it might be fun to see it with a little makeover!

All right.

[She takes the chalk and looks down at the blur of colors that once was Steven's previous drawing. With a wave of her hand Lapis can clear away whatever water is still there, but there's not much left to build on, only suggestions of surviving shapes here and there. She does, in fact, know a bit of Beach City -- that's more or less where they met! -- but certainly nothing recognizable now.]

Where do you want to start?

[Steven gives a cheery smile as she accepts the chalk, and then he looks down at the bare pieces of the chalk drawing thoughtfully.]

Hmmm... good question. Where to start? ...Well, where better place to start than home? That's... kinda where we first met, after all.

[From whatever remains, Steven starts to draw the Temple.]

True, that IS a place I know.

[The temple is big enough and complicated enough that she can join in alongside him. Lapis has a good memory for what she has seen, and, as it turns out, can actually draw pretty decently, which together make a skillset nobody should think too hard about. It means she can legit do a good job; there's probably a bit of a divide between her parts and his, but hey who cares about that. His side leads into the actual town while hers has the beach, and that is quite a lot of beach, but there's not exactly much to it so she should probably move on soon. Especially since:]

...I think we're gonna run out of blue.

[Steven smiles as he gets to work. He makes some approving noises every now and then, because Lapis is pretty good at this! He does start working his way to town, and he chuckles as she points that out.]

...Yeah, I don't think there's enough blue to fill the oceans. Maybe some of it can be... green! Because seaweed?

[She tries that. On the bright side, they probably wouldn't need the blue for much else, so it's not too great a loss.]

Hmm, the water kind of blends together with the hill now. [Not like that's a big problem; personally, she actually sorta likes the effect. In any case, as she moves on to the hillside, she comes ever nearer to actually getting to something like part of the town. This particular spot is one she's seen, but not up close.] There was a building on top too, wasn't there?

It actually looks kinda nice. [He remarks, on the blending between the sea and the hill, with a reassuring smile.

And then he's quick to chime in answer to her.]

You're right! That's where the lighthouse goes. Good ol' lighthouse!

[All right, yeah, that sounds right. Not that she actually knows anything about it, but who cares about that either. Lapis draws something vaguely around the right shape.]

What's a lighthouse?

[She could ask that before starting to draw it, but no.]

[It's close enough! Steven's not here to nitpick, at least.]

Let me tell you all about them! They're these tall buildings by the sea, and they have these huge lights in the top of them. At night, they usually shine that light over the water, so that it can help lost boats to find land! Isn't that nice?

[Huh. She's not sure how well she can visualize that. But it's an adaptation to living on a planet with so very much water, it seems. Humans have so many weird little concerns, but then they work so hard around them.

She draws a light, of unspecified source, dominating her already-vague building, complete with tiny little highlights in white and yellow shining on the grass beneath it.]

It is nice. [Which is true, even if she doesn't fully understand it.] What're you drawing now over there?

Ooh, nice! [He hums as he notices her light. As he does that, he focuses on drawing something on the edge of Beach City.]

Well, I'll give you a hint. [He draws a doughnut on top of a building.] This isn't the letter "o"!

[This is... fairly lost on Lapis, who doesn't eat and has more background in a different writing system. But she's trying!]

That one's... kind of familiar?

It... is, isn't it? [He says, a bit nervously now that he's realizing that Lapis might not recognize this.]

Iiiit's... the Big Doughnut!

Right... [Lapis stares thoughtfully at the drawing. She knows little of the Big Donut, but it was irrelevant background scenery once. Her limited perspective of that general area is coming into better focus; in its way that's actually sort of interesting. Everything has changed so very much.]

If you go further that way... [That is, down the boardwalk.] That's kind of where we met too, right?

Yes, that's right!! [He loosely outlines that part of the boardwalk.] That's where we first started to talk to each other. And you saved me from Mayor Dewey's car! [Never mind that he didn't actually try to move out of the car's way in response.]

Man, this really is like a trip down memory lane...

[Spurred by those memories, he starts to draw Dewey's car nearby on the beach.]

We sure had a lot of first meetings.

[Since, depending how you look at it, you could say they met when Steven got the mirror, or when they started communicating, or when he let her out. Considering her actual circumstances back then, maybe this should be a trip down bad memory lane for Lapis, but honestly -- even at the time, Steven was always a bright spot. That was basically the exact point where things started to get better. And she's gotten enough distance and progress in to make awkward jokes at the Thanksgiving table, besides, so she can handle a little reminiscing, at a lighter time on her own terms. It feels good to have that power. It's a nice day.

Anyway, her side of the beach is boring so she's paying more attention to what Steven's doing now.]

Oh, I remember that thing.

[She snickers, even. We all know what other moments the mayormobile reminds her of.]

Yeah. And I loved every first meeting! [Even if they involved sad times. But at least now most things are behind them, and Lapis isn't imprisoned or on the run. They're free to do as many friendship activities as they want, so everything feels more nostalgic.]

Doooo you? [He says with a sly grin as he remembers the mayormobile. Then, he giggles as he draws some stink lines surrounding the vehicle.]
