+ Chalk it to me! - Mingle Log +

Who: EVERYONE!
Where: Anywhere outside on Real Side, but mostly in the gardens!
When: 3/14-3/20
Rating: PG, warn if going higher than PG-13
Summary: Alice has invited everyone, Reals and Mirrors alike, to come color outside in the nice spring weather with magic chalk. Surely nothing could go wrong with that plan, right?
The Story:

Outside, the weather is absolutely beautiful. It's not too hot, but not too cold either, and no one would have ever realized there was snow on the ground yesterday if they hadn't been here to see it. The grass is green and everything is dry - no sign of melted snow anywhere at all. Flowers have begun to bloom and it truly looks as though it's been spring for some time already. The season has changed abruptly and now Wonderland's decided it's time for it to be nice out.

There are many paths through the gardens, the vendors, and the hedge maze that can be drawn on, but as Alice demonstrated in her post, there's no need at all to stick to pavement only. Even the air can be decorated with living drawings!

This is a log for people who want to come color outside or people who want to check out what others are doing out here. It isn't strictly to interact with Alice, but she'll be around and will have a top level.

"Erm."

The angel shifts, slightly ruffled, and pushes a hand through his perpetually messy black hair. He has the distinct feeling that Sunburst didn't actually register what he just asked.

"I wouldn't recommend going anywhere near it," he says then, quite quickly, rushing past the first question entirely. "Not anywhere near."

Sunburst absolutely registered nothing. He's on a gosh-darn learning mission and he needs his facts. He nods, jotting something down in his notebook.

"Hmm. Is that due to the dangers it poses? I can't quite seem to get a straight answer on what it can actually do," he smiles up at Gadreel. "I'd love to hear your take."

He makes an odd sound. A vague, uncomfortable kind of 'hmmmmmm' that speaks of knowing something but being unsure of just how much he ought to say. The White Queen has shown herself to be kind so far, but all that time under her sister, being all but forced to keep his mouth shut and keep hiding save for those final weeks when he had finally decided enough still have their hold on him.

"If you want a 'straight answer', I think you're going to be disappointed," he replies, then clears his throat. "It's a force unto itself. I'm sure you know it... uses memory."

Sunburst hears that sound and doesn't like it one bit, no sir. He lets out a soft, disappointed snort. He supposes he shouldn't be surprised. The Mirrors lived under tyranny for a long, long time. It's like talking about Sombra in the Crystal Empire- it tends to bring a general unease for the community- remembering someone they'd really rather forget.

"I did hear that. Much like the Vendors, it just...takes one. It's a risky gamble," even he, with so few dear ones and a relatively uninteresting life would be unwilling to take that risk. "I suppose I'll have to settle for any side-long answer you can give me."

Gadreel sighs. He doesn't like to disappoint people, but Sunburst is right in his thinking. It isn't easy to break out of that kind of mental pressure even when you know the danger has passed.

"I'm on my way back to the clinic, if you'd walk with me?" and here, much like his Real counterpart, he doesn't actually give the other individual much of a choice of whether to follow him or not if he still wants answers. He just begins walking.

"The Core doesn't only take memories. It takes a part of you, your... I suppose your soul, whenever you die here."

"Oh? Um. Okay!"

He at least knows the clinic well- he visits Claire often. He's a little curious to see what it's like on this side of the Mirror. He smiles a little, trotting along beside him, scribbling down notes as Gadreel talks.

"Oh. I had heard something about that. That's...concerning," he frowns at his notes. "That's where the five death rule came into play, isn't it?"

"'Concerning' is a word for it. It doesn't affect us that way, but... hmm." He hesitates to say that those of them on the Mirror side aren't real. That is a conversation he's already had with the White Queen, though her reassurances had never quite settled in the way she might have liked.

"I'm not sure about that. I always thought that the Core and the Queens were... separate entities. One not necessarily influencing the other."

But don't quote him on that.

"Two separate entities? I...suppose that would explain why the Core devoured the last Queen. Well...I assume it was the Core, anyway."

That's the problem with Wonderland. You might have it all figured out but it turns out to be a whole mess of stupid. It's deeply frustrating.

"So does that mean you Mirrors can get closer to the Core without it damaging you?"

"I haven't tested that theory," Gadreel replies with a somewhat grim smile. "I quite like how I am now, and there's no guarantee I'd be remade in the same way if something happened to me."

It truly is the problem with Wonderland, even in the Mirror side. You can never really make sense of anything.

"But, um... I could look into it for you."

"...I guess that's a point," his muzzle wrinkles. "I suppose it's a little much to ask someone to test their very existence on trying out a theory."

He GUESSES. Still, the offer makes him smile.

"Thank you! I'd appreciate anything you can find out for me."
