[He knows the actual awnser, he's just bored.]
Even so, the fujoshi in the modern audience would probably try to use a scene where one pretty boy accidentally killing another to justify whatever they're trying to ship... Am I right, ladies?
[How many obsessed yaoi fangirls do we have in this class, anyway?]

[This is a classic literature class, not Fanfiction 101, Young Man.]
And see, you do know the correct answer- all you need to do is give me that. I won't accept jokey answers on the exam paper. But yes. He realised he'd killed someone else. That the road to revenge had killed a young man who'd done nothing to him.

[If that's so, then why is Dante's Inferno basically a self insert fic featuring the author's favorite poet, a bunch of dead guys the author didn't like, and fart jokes?]
-And the boy's mom, who happened to be married to Villefort... And that kid was Villefort's only legit son, wasn't he? Man, the whole family must be screwed at that point.

Yes, he's absolutely destroyed Villefort's family- Villefort himself got off relatively lightly in retrospect. Certainly, he goes mad, but it's his wife and son are the ones who die- people who did nothing to put Dantes behind bars.
no subject
Exactly! So why did you have to single out Villefort's son in particular when the whole family was affected? Shouldn't that have been the turning point for Dantes?
no subject
Villefort's wife was still the one who poisoned her son- certainly, she was a victim but she still chose that path. Edouard was a true victim. An innocent party who was betrayed by those he trusted most just liiiiiiike?
[C'mon, Kokichi, you're smart, you can line up the dots.]

Exactly. He sees that he has created tragedy he's faced himself, made someone else suffer that sort of betrayal. A taste of his own medicine, as it were.
no subject
... Yeah, but it's not like Edouard gets to rot in jail for a few years.
[He gets the point, but likes being difficult.]

But Dantes is the one with the chance to pull his life around while Edouard... does not.
