Since we're only nine hours ahead of them, it's possible we'd observe the signing on June sixteenth as there is a distinct possibility a minimum of four hand-drafted and signed copies could conceivably keep the proceeds from concluding before three in the afternoon their time and thus midnight in Japan. Though that's retroactive to both the introduction of time zones and the Gregorian calendar.

I think by the 16th century they were more or less viewed as sort of a bill of rights to protect individual English freedoms, but at the time it was more a matter of barons protecting themselves against illegal imprisonment by King John.
