Who is he talking to?

Toothless looks around, expecting to see someone there, but doesn't. He rumbles, low in his throat, at the Kid, trying to get his attention. What's wrong with the Viking? Is there danger that Toothless can't see or smell, for some reason? (He wouldn't put it past the mansion.)
