Wonderland has done a bang-up job of making Evelyn the sort of person who has to deal with unfamiliar things and changing circumstances. If someone from the future says that the wheeled unit is a car, it's a car. There's no sense fighting about it when Evelyn has no point of reference to compare.
"Surreal sounds about right," Evie prods at her sheet of paper. "But predicting things is too much trouble - for us, I mean. There's absolutely no telling what a sentient house will do to you if you start poking around."
...by no means does Evelyn not 'poke around,' though - she's far too curious an individual for that.
