It's why she lays a thick line of salt at each entrance to the room, barricades the door with every piece of furniture she can take from the closet and both of their beds. When that's done she just keeps hold of the container of salt (and yeah, there's about five others straight from the closet already waiting just in case) and looks at Simon. She even tries to give him a little smile, but there's no denying how worried she is. River has seen what they can do. ]
Should be enough. This should keep them safe.
[ Hopefully. ]
8/4; zacharie
The problem is, she can't see it, and she doesn't have a thing to fight with. Some salt, sure, but not enough to block the hallway and stay safe. She runs, but she's not fast enough. River tries though, she keeps running until she finds an empty room with the intention of shutting herself in again, but she doesn't make the salt barrier fast enough.
The door bursts open and she gets knocked back, and that's it. She's gone, she can't fight these things. She can try to fight them, but this is it. She's going to die. ]
8/5; crowley
To be fair though, it's Hellhounds. It's not like any of them are going to get out of this clean, and River really is doing her best. Now that she actually has a weapon that does some good she's less worried, but there still is the small problem of not being able to see anything. Still, it's better than nothing. Meg's blade in hand, she keeps carefully navigating her way through the mansion.
Crowley is a welcome sight and she visibly relaxes when she sees him. It doesn't last long though, the tell tale snarl behind her is just a little more important than a friendly reunion, and she turns sharply to face the empty hall way. It's damn hard to fight something you can't see, but she's sure as hell going to try. ]

River, at least, seemed to know how to combat them, to make barriers that would be hard for them to cross.
He comes over to his sister and holds her close, unable to stop his hands from trembling.]
He'll protect her, no matter what happens. I just hope everyone else is okay...
[It's his doctor instincts, he knows. Combat means injuries, injuries he could be helping with, but he knows that putting himself in danger would not do them any good, either.]

She's still making a half hearted attempt to fight her way down to the first floor when she hears it again, the snarling at the bottom of the hallway. She adjusts her grip on the blade - another dead friend, the owner of that blade, but it was all she knew that would work against them - and turns to face the source of the noise. River is going to keep fighting, of course she is, but she's exhausted. The swing is too slow, clumsy, and she misses completely. When she screams, it echoes through the abandoned hallway and she just tries to back away. Her hand drops to her arm, over the deep claw scratches left by the beast, and quickly swaps the weapon to her other hand.
The second swing is met with something worse, a bite, and if possible she gets louder. She's trying to be brave, really, but she's so sure that she's about to die, and it hurts so much. What point is bravery in the face of death? ]

He hasn't seen River since this started and he's relieved to see that she's alright. She's just the sort of crazy that might try to make friends with the things and while Crowley can get along with some of them fine, he hasn't seen any of them react all that well to humans.
His smile is short-lived when he sees River, though, as he sees the great big hound before it even makes a peep. ]
River, get behind me.
[ He moves swiftly to her, trying to maneuver himself between her and the hound as he keeps eye contact with it. ]

Until Wonderland, Zacharie had always been a step ahead. It was in the script. Being where he was needed, when he was needed. (Though that was hardly an advantage. The end result was not a happy one no matter what ending the player chose.)
That little "ability" has not come in handy much in Wonderland until now.
It's not that he really knows that River is in trouble. He's just in a place, and then he's not. Appearing and reappearing like a flickering image on a broken television. He doesn't really question it; one moment he's taking a stroll in the yards, the next he's walking through an upper story hallway and there's a snarling invisible beast that he hurriedly shuffles away from. Nothing heroic.
And then in one of these little ventures he hears a door slam open. Normal people would take this as a sign to get the fuck out because that's some horror movie shit. Zacharie, being from a rather horrifying game, immediately goes to check it out, and it's basically like when you stumble into a cut scene in Resident Evil and realize you have to fucking fight a monster. This time there is no badass dog you've freed from a trap to help. It's just some weirdo in a mask against an invisible hellbeast.
Welp.
Seemingly out of nowhere he draws a bigass sword and slashes at the creature. There's no salt and he's not even really an angel, he's like Angel Lite, so it doesn't do much except to draw the hellhound's attention toward him.
He says one thing. ]
Run.
[ NOT THAT FUCKING HELPFUL WHEN YOU'RE BLOCKING THE DOOR ZACHARIE but maybe she can jump out a window or somersault over him to escape idek. ]

Heading down to the floor below, she finds an entrance way to set her bomb up on and checks the whole thing meticulously. Everything in place, she uses the blade to make a small cut on her hand and smears the blood on the wall. Gritting her teeth, she holds the blade out and takes a few steps back as she looks around, waiting for signs of the hounds following the scent. ]
Where are you? [ The shout is frustrated, almost a little desperate. ] She's waiting- where are you!
no subject
There isn't really time to question it though, with the beast at the end of the hallway and Crowley telling her to get back, she almost protests. Almost, because these things really do scare the hell out of her. Rather than argue, she just takes a few quick steps backwards, and after only a brief hesitation she holds the angel blade out to him. She's seen this thing in action, she knows it's effective. ]
Would this work better?
[ It's hard not to be worried though, mostly because he is. It's not a good sign, after all> Crowley is never worried. ]
Oh, hi :3
He sticks to the shadows, noting what is going on around him. He's vigilant and wary. He finally reaches the front door, unsure of what to expect once inside. There's only one way to find out. He opens it and is immediately assaulted by River's shout. He doesn't know what caused it, but he wants to find out.
He plasters himself against the wall, an arrow drawn. He makes his way slowly to the doorway. He leads with the tip of the arrow, but steps fully into the doorway. He's surprised to find himself face to face with a small, young woman. He doesn't release his arrow as he watches her.]
Who's waiting? [He asks this in a deep voice. It isn't yet altered by a disguiser, but it's lower than his normal tone.]

'Touch her again, and you will die.'
Actually, it doesn't need to touch her again. It's going to die and Scott's going to kill it. Wonderland has done a lot of things to upset his morals - forcing him into making the decisions of whether he should spare a life or save it when Scott isn't sure what's right or left. This is different. This is personal. This is - a dog trying to kill a woman Scott has grown to love in his time in Wonderland. This is a vendetta, but this is also insuring safety for other people.
And anyone who hurts River is going to have a chat with Scott. That's just how it is now.
He springs into action moments later - the hellhound wasn't waiting, and neither was he. Inhuman claws scratch and tear at the flesh he can't see, and invisible claws rip and tear at his own flesh. Two mad dogs fighting each other. But the pain and the already healing wounds were worth it - to protect River, Scott would surely do most anything. ]

Then she hears the growl, and for half a second she panics. She's just about managing to accept death, but not being mauled- but it's not one of them, it's something (someone) else entirely.
It's Scott. She can't possibly know how he's managed to get here in time, but he's managed it, and she's so, so grateful for that.
She can't help but watch the fight. He's so different like this - part of her has always known really, but she's never been aware of it until now. He's different too - granted a little more physically obvious than her, but still different, and if she wasn't a little preoccupied with bleeding out on the floor she might actually make a comment about it.
As it is, she just drops her head to rest on the floor and watches. It's an odd sight, watching Scott fight an invisible creature, but there's enough whimpering and blood that doesn't belong to her or Scott for River to know who's winning. He might not hear her, but she mumbles something out anyway with an attempt at a weak smile on her face. ]
Knight in shining armour?
[ Yes River now is totally the time for jokes. ]
oh i wonder who this could possibly be!
You're new.
[ Which doesn't exactly answer his question, but she's not exactly feeling the most obliging right now, eyeing the arrow again, she waits half a second before raising her own weapon with a raised eyebrow. She really doesn't feel like a fight right now, she's tired, but if he's going to walk in weapons raised, she'll gladly match. ]
She's waiting. Me, myself and I. River Tam. Anything else? They're coming. [ She purses her lips slightly and gestures with the blade, but it's not an offensive move, she just wants him to move out of the way. She still can't see the beasts, but at least she knows what to look out for by now. ]

Damn right, it will.
[ He takes it, holding out the poker for her, just in case.
There's no exact point he can pinpoint when he started to care about River. Before Dean messed around with his very being, he'd already been surprisingly fond of her. Now, she's part of the mixed up jumble of feelings that come and go like the weather.
With the beast bearing down on them, there's no time to get rid of the pesky leather glove he's been using to hold the iron, so he just keeps a tight grip. ]
Easy, boy.
[ The hellhound growls, padding towards Crowley with its hackles raised, and Crowley stands his ground. You've got to show a dog who's boss. Backing up only makes it see you as weak. ]

(Dean, dead. Bela, dead. Meg, torn apart. Countless more faces she doesn't know the names too, all victims of the beasts at their door.)
She's scared, really scared like she hasn't been in a long time. She's faced a surprising amount in her time - even more so since arriving here - but nothing quite like hellhounds. ]
It's okay, it'll be okay, she knows what to do. Don't- don't worry, she knows- [ She really is trying, but even Simon's hands are shaking, and how is she supposed to be brave when even he is scared? Rather than stumbling through more attempts at comfort, she just sighs and hugs him close, biting her lip a little as she keeps a tight hold of him. ] It'll be okay.
[ It really won't and she knows it, but she can hardly say that, can she? ]
no subject
[He knows how his physical signs of fear must be affecting River, wishes he could make himself stop, but it's the uncertainty eating at him. They could arrive at any moment, and who knew if a mere line of salt would be enough?
He cups one of River's cheeks in his hand.]
He couldn't protect her from the chess match. He's not going to let her be put in danger this time. Not if he can do anything at all to prevent it.
SUPER SEKRIT no one will ever guess
He knows it's a silly time to ask questions. There's a bigger danger than wondering if this girl is friend or foe. Her actions tell him that he can trust her for now and it's enough. He moves into the room, keeping his back to a wall. He wants to be able to watch the windows and doors for whatever is coming their way.]
What is coming? Who's controlling those...things?
no subject
What do they look like?
[ It's a quiet question, just a hushed little whisper that she barely thinks about. Trust her of all people to be curious about their appearance just before being set upon by beasts that have literally torn her friends apart. It's quiet though, and she holds the poker a little tighter as she squints down the hallway again.
...There isn't much time for silence before River's quiet whisper is interrupting again, this time with a new question. ]
Has he listened to you?
no subject
[ Before he can answer her second question, it leaps at him and he swipes the angel blade at it, getting in a shallow cut on it's face that only makes it angry.
Its blood drips on the ground from its invisible form just a few feet away and then it leaps again, this time with no warning.
Crowley reaches behind him and shoves River hard just as the hound's claws rip through his clothes and dig into his chest. Before he can even react to the pain, he's falling backwards under its weight and it closes its great jaw over Crowley's throat, tearing at the skin and muscle. ]
Run!
[ It's all he can manage to choke out as he meets River's eyes. ]
