The past week has been such a roller coaster that Martha's barely been able to keep up.

Then, the disappearances. Tom, Annie, Dean, Chihiro, James, Emma.
It's not as if it was out of the ordinary for people to leave. Almost all of her friends from home had already done so, and maybe that's why this had come as such a blow.
But then those who'd disappeared came back, except none of them had been quite right. Just a bit cracked, here and there, just like the imperfections in the floor, showing the gnarled things twisting around underneath.
There's been so much going on between all the chatter about a dark future and the ghosts of said future lurking around every corner that Martha's struggled to keep track of it all. In fact, she's started taking notes. Dark futures that need to be fixed are sort of her area, after all.
It's not that hard to put two and two together. People disappeared, people from the future showed up, those have got to be the same people. And out of all those who left, Emma's probably the one Martha's closest to, so it makes sense to track her down.
Easier said than done, but on a hunch Martha decides to try the diner. It's where they'd had a lot of their chats, so maybe...
