At first there is very little of his speech that Kíli understands, but when he starts to explain it as letters, he looks to be able to keep up more easily, leaning over apprehensively as the boy starts typing on seemingly random buttons on his own device.
He startles, predictably, when, after John points at his own device resting on the floor, it buzzes and makes a little noise. It is the first time it has done that, clearly, and for a moment Kíli actually thinks that perhaps the human had done it by just pointing at it.
Kíli leans over in any case, seeing the words on the screen but only really understanding one of them. He tries to remember what the boy had explained first, and to make some sense of it considering what he is used to. "So, it is as if written messages reach you right away?" He stares at the device, still awestruck. "It seems like such powerful magic. Isn't it... dangerous?"
