This particular puppy does seem to be attached to a viking, unlike the others which are roaming free. Toothless rumbles and looks in Clint's direction curiously, over the pup's fluff. He doesn't exactly strike terror into anyone's heart in this pose, but still, he doesn't want the viking to worry. So he rumbles quietly, a friendly greeting. To the both of them, really.
