Souji knows Bigby a bit, or as well as he can, considering, well, it's Bigby, and that Souji lives with his uncle, a detective for the Inaba PD. Souji knew Bigby's reputation before he ever actually met him.

Not that that has deterred him from approaching the guy every so often, if nothing else just to say hi. When he sees him out in the yard on the way to the practice building to get some supplies for his class, he takes a detour over to where Bigby is loitering.
