Steve can't say for certain, but it seems like Bucky's sensed that Sam isn't all that interested in speaking to him. Despite the close quarters, they haven't interacted much, and maybe that's for the best. Natasha may be able to look at that face without flinching, but Steve can't blame Sam if it's not the same in his case.

"I'll make a special exception this time," Steve says as he grins and shakes his head. He's relieved when Sam gives him a serious answer, though. As much as he wants to ask are you absolutely sure there's no more pain, he's got to not be so imposing, and he also trusts Sam to tell him the truth.

"Best news I've heard all week." Steve has to actively focus on running at this speed, but he manages it. "Now we can return to our routine of me outperforming you every morning." Sorry, buddy, you ran right into that.
