Summary: Dipper can't relax like a normal person, so he's out hunting GHOSTS!
The Story:

[The hot springs are all very nice (if a little more naked than Dipper is comfortable with in his swimming), but he's way more interested in the rumors that this place is haunted. His last ghost encounter didn't go so well, but he knows a lot more about ghosts now. He knows a lot more about everything.

Well, possibly not about the yukata. He's definitely wearing it wrong, and he's got his shorts on underneath. It feels weird otherwise. Well, weirder. He'd really prefer a shirt.

But it doesn't matter. He's ready for any ghosts that come his way. He's got anointed water, he's got a sensor to try and catch ghostly readings, and he's got his journal. Time to set a few traps and hope he can catch the ghost by the time the event ends. Sure, it means not sleeping much, since obviously nighttime is when ghosts are most common, and it means not enjoying the relaxing vacation but, well, vacations aren't nearly as interesting as ghosts are, and it's not like he was sleeping anyway. Slumber parties are the worst, even when it's boys, not girls.]

Wow, you look like a nerd.

[Amethyst comes up behind him, her hair drying up in a towel and her purple striped yukata tied up like a bathrobe. She just came from the hot springs; she doesn't actually need to sleep so she's decided to look around the inn for now rather than going back to her room.

And what does she find but Dipper looking at some kind of techno-junk, holding his silly journal... Like she said, what a nerd.]

[In the middle of the dark hallway, footsteps echo back and forth. A shadow is moving...

... Actually, it's a human teenager. But given her long, way black hair, and her black yukata, she blends in pretty well at this time of night.

Back to the spookiness. Another sound is starting is come - low, haunting moaning. As if the dead spirits wish to find a victim...

... Actually that's her again. She ate too much, and she has a stomachache. She's heading for the kitchen to get some medicine.

But surely Dipper is rational enough to realize what's going on, and not jump to any conclusions, right?]

<sub>[Difficulties being able to sleep alone make trying to sleep in a room full of other people nearly impossible; as a result, Adam has nothing better to do than roam around the inn at night. If he's lucky, he finds a quiet place to put his head back for a bit.

As it turns out, he's not alone this time.

Adam's relaxed against a wall when he notices someone poking around like they're on a high stakes mission--a boy, his initial glance tells him. Sure looks like one insomniac kid from where he's sitting. He watches Dipper go about his business, seeing no reason to interrupt.]</sub>

[Although Kaneki is used to the idea of hotsprings--or at least of sharing baths--he's not really into it at the moment. Not only does he not want to have to explain the scar on his stomach to anyone ever, but it would also be weird to bathe with his eye patch on. And he can't take it off. Not when the smell of people in near-boiling water is all over the place. Nope.

Ugh the life of a cannibal.

So he's mostly just wandering around the hotel when he notices Dipper with a bunch of...stuff? and his yukata on wrong, and pauses.]

Dipper-kun. [Still weird.] It's nice to see you. You um...look like you found something to keep you busy while we're here.

Uh huh. [Dipper's frowning, not really paying attention to her as he flips through the journal.] Pretty safe to say this thing isn't a Level 10, right? I mean, if there's doubt as to whether it exists at all, it can't be more than... Level 3, and even that would be a stretch.

[It isn't clear if he's actually talking to Amethyst or just to himself. He does have a habit of thinking out loud, after all.]

...unless it's been hiding intentionally! Laying in wait.

[Well, he has met her before, even if it was just through the the phone. And she isn't floating or see-through or anything, so though he does stare a little, he doesn't take her for a ghost.

Still, that moaning isn't exactly a good sign. Just because he doesn't think she's a ghost doesn't mean she can't be possessed or something.]

Level 3? Are you talking about one of those RPGs? [You know, like video game levels... Okay, Amethyst really doesn't know what he's going on about.] Hey, are you hearing me? [She reaches over between him and the journal and waves a hand in front of his face.] Hello?

[Dipper's pretty focused on his task, flipping through his journal and muttering to himself. He's so focused, in fact, that he doesn't even see Adam until he's... tripping over him.]

Ah! [He stumbles and catches himself.] ...what are you doing out here?

Ghosts! [Dipper waves a hand excitedly. As far as he's concerned, the possibility of ghosts way outranks hot springs. Sure, he might learn there are no ghosts after all, but he's got high hopes.] I've heard there's one here. I'm gonna be the one who catches it!

... Brains... Brains...

[... She's hearing too many voices from people's brains, and it's making her feel sicker. Also, she's having trouble seeing ahead, so she sticks her arms out, trying to feel her way around. Truth be told, she hasn't even noticed Dipper.]

<sub>[Getting stepped on by a short stack is not on his agenda tonight. This kid should probably be thankful he's not his half-brother and looking to skin a distracted Wonderland resident alive, because the boy looks too spaced out to notice someone trying to murder him.

Adam puts out his arm to keep Dipper from falling right on him. Then clears his throat. Loudly.

What are you doing shaking this place down? Alone, at night? You know it's not safe, right?

[Dipper swats her hand away, looking up with a scowl.] Hey! I'm kind of busy, you know. There's supposed to be a ghost around here.

Seriously? [He rolls his eyes, turning away. He's also seen real zombies, and they were a lot more desiccated than she is right now.] If you're gonna make fun of me, you could at least be cleverer about it than that.

Are you kidding? I've done way less safe things than this. [...that doesn't come out as reassuring as it sounded in Dipper's head.] I mean, I can take care of myself. I'm on a mission.

Sure.

<sub>[Not even going to try getting into that, Adam's not this kid's dad. If he makes a habit of running with sharp objects or getting into unmarked vans, well... sure. It's a free country.

Now that he knows Dipper's not about to use him as a floor mat, Adam lowers his arm to rest across his knee.]</sub>

Well, okay. In combination with the love of secret codes, this is making Kaneki's idea of what kind of kid this is crystallize very rapidly.

He glances around.]

I guess it does seem a little creepy when it's quiet, since it's kind of an old building.

[Looking back at Dipper, he takes in the items he's carrying with him.]

What is all of that for?

A ghost! Oh man, are you ghost hunting? Are these your ghost hunting tools? I want one too! Can we be ghostbusters? [She totally doesn't believe in ghosts but this sounds like fun.]

Ghostbusters? [What the heck are those? Dipper shakes his head and clutches his tools a little closer. It's not that he doesn't trust Amethyst with them he just.... doesn't trust Amethyst with them.]

Uhhh I don't know. Are you sure you don't just want to find some kind of gem?

I've heard rumors of ghosts. [He shrugs, trying to come off as cool and nonchalant, like an expert at dealing with the paranormal as opposed to just a kid. He can handle ghosts. He's done it before.] I'm trying to find out if there's any truth to it.

[That idea is probably... not very far off.]

Oh, this is anointed water. Depending on what level ghost it is, this might incapacitate it, make it vanish entirely, or do absolutely nothing. And this? [He holds up the machine that looks sort of like a metal detector, but smaller.] Can detect traces of ectoplasm. It'll beep if a ghost is near. If I built it right, anyway.

Well, yeah, I want to find the gem, but it's not around here... Besides, I want to find the fake ghosts and shoot 'em in their fake skulls! Uh, not that they have skulls. Since they're ghosts. Do you have ghost guns? [She looks over his tools that he's holding. Doesn't look like any ghost guns there. But they can probably get some.]

Ghosts. You're hunting ghosts.

<sub>[His reply has the lilt of a question to it. Really, that's what this kid is spending his night doing? Did he just roll into town yesterday or something? Adam could name about a thousand different things someone'd be better off doing when it's quiet in Wonderland--like sleeping.

Pot calling the kettle black there, but his situation is a bit different.]</sub>

And what if they're the kind that kills you first and asks questions later, what's your plan then?

You made it yourself? [Kaneki peers a bit more closely at the machine--not close enough to invade any personal space or anything.] That's pretty impressive. Where did you learn to do something like that?

[Wirt is definitely not even a little comfortable with how they're supposed to be using the hot springs. The concept is nice in theory, but he is definitely not going to be disrobing in front of anyone if he can help it. Taking a bath with other people is just mortifying, and Wirt refuses.

Unfortunately, he also wants to not be gross and disgusting, and his only option for that is hot spring...which is why he's sneaking off to it at one in the morning. Surely everyone else will be asleep and he'll be the only one there and no one will be the wiser. It's a perfect plan.

He might not stand out quite as much without his usual hat and cape, but he has his yukata wrapped (incorrectly, right over left) tightly around him and he's trying to be as quiet as possible as he sneaks down the hall. He wouldn't want to wake anyone up, after all - they might realize what he was doing and that would be absolutely mortifying.]
