It's partly because she is a woman and that hardly means anything for what people might assume it means. He's by no means disregarding any potential for violence or strength. It's more that women, to him, are typically more logical and rational. Less prone to abrupt senseless violence with no reasoning than men. Most women he has met fight because they have to, not because they want to. That's been his experience thus far back home and he had no problem applying that to the women he encounters here.
