It should absorb energy attacks by dispersing them evenly along the shield and deflecting the diluted energy outward. It's harmless so long as you don't fire any point-blank or you might get a little recoil. It should theoretically work with your bolts, but I can't promise they won't just shred it. Your energy's kind of unique.
