Yes, I'm aware of what trains do. We have discovered civilization by my time. But to go from train tracks to believing in purgatory is a leap.

[That's not to say he doubts the damage one could do if it did strike a pair of children--they could easily be killed instantly and feel no pain. It's difficult for even Victor to hazard a guess if they would remember the impact despite the trauma should they be... ah, questioned on the matter after the cause of death.

It's the spiritual aspect of all this that has Victor skeptical.]


Memory loss isn't uncommon, but do you really believe that's what happened? That your consciousness stepped onto another plane of existence postmortem? I'm not quick to credit magic or occult powers, but... [He punctuates his words with a gesture at the tavern--what had been a mansion not long ago.] Living like this for so long lets one see there are more possible explanations than were dreamed of before.
