[ So. This is probably a bad idea. Carver knows that, recognizes it, but blithely continues on because. Well, because, why not? He and Fenris are friends of a sort. There's no reason why he can't lend a helping hand when the time calls for it. It's not like Fenris hasn't done the same when a book has been traded for a battlefield.

And, also, there might be an ulterior motive. Carver is not particularly looking to spend a lot of time alone. As of late everything is quite literally fucking crazy and he feels so off balance. But, he holds it in as well as he can. Which isn't all that great at all and some days he finds himself at a loss of what to do with himself. Does he continue to stay angry? Does he cry about it? Does he break as many things as he can get his hands on? He doesn't know, he never learned how to properly handle his emotions.

So, throwing himself into something else is the best place he can start. (After, of course, a couple of healthy sparring sessions with Fenris until his muscles screamed with agony and his mind was blissfully silent.) He'd found the library and spent a few days browsing the selection of books. Nothing seemed familiar and he entertains the idea of asking the closet from some books from home, but for now. These weird children's books it is. They're bright and colorful, and some of them even rhyme. The words are big and bold, the pictures are whimsical and childlike. It feels a little strange to be getting these for an adult (he thinks; he's pretty sure, anyway), but he does it.

Then, of course, awkwardly pecks around the topic until he's finally able to say what his intentions are. And now, here they are. Sitting in Fenris' room on the floor. The only lessons he's ever given were how to use a great sword so. Delicate arrangements as how to pronounce letters and words is... decidedly not that. Bethy has joined the cause as well, though she's content to fight with a lace on Carver's boot. He's given a rough outline of things and has no idea if it's been helpful or not so, might as well give this a go and see what happens. ]

All right. Want to try one of the books and see what you can figure out?
