"Who else is gonna do it?" they say weakly, with the air of a bad joke, and immediately regret it. They just get so used to taking things back, and keep forgetting that it isn't always a viable option.

Who else is going to apologize? And, god, would that even remotely cut it? Sorry for killing you that one time, those fifty times, and then they can just laugh it off and sweep it under the rug? What kind of friend does that? How would everyone take it? It's easier telling people how they died so many times to get to where they are, but how's that any better?
