[Open] I suck at pertinent song lyrics, okay

Who: Souji and Everyone!
Where: The diner, 8th floor, room 001
When: 4/16-4/20
Rating: PG-13 (just to be safe; will change if necessary)
Summary: The diner continues its tradition of being a Safe Space during dangerous events.
The Story:
As soon as it became apparent what was happening in Wonderland, Souji makes a brief statement to the network, then heads to the diner. After checking the cabinets and freezer he's relieved to see that none of the supplies he normally stocks have disappeared. Now he just has to find things like blankets and first aid supplies...if he has to, he can raid nearby rooms, though hopefully anyone who comes along will bring some helpful things with them.

Souji will be looking for people to help out with various things, so anyone can volunteer to cook, provide first aid as necessary, guard the door, help people get to the diner as the infection spreads, and whatever else might be helpful.

This is an open mingle log, so feel free to tag in as you like! Maybe just label top-level threads however you like.

CLOSED to Souji:
Kanji doesn't bother responding to Souji's network post. Instead, he immediately grabs his phone and his jacket and heads over to the diner at top-speed, figuring its better to meet him in person-- like he would be anywhere else when his friend was going out of his way to make the diner a safe zone. He tosses his jacket over the counter when he arrives, doing his best to keep himself from slipping into an all-out panic: shadows, he can handle, and murder seems old-hat by now, but zombies or whatever they were?

"Hey, Senpai!" His voice is tense as he calls out, his shoulders rigid, and he looks back towards the door just in case any of the infected had somehow managed to sprint up to the eighth floor already. "Point me where you want me, what needs doin'? Hell, where are people gonna sleep?"

If they slept at all. Damn it. Who the hell was going to be able to rest knowing those things were out there?

OPEN:
Kanji stays close for the duration of the event, doing whatever he can to help keep people safe and comfortable-- while he's not the fanciest cook, he's not bad either, and he spends a lot of his time making sure there's food to go around without exhausting their supplies, as well as offering basic first aid to anyone who needs it.

He'll spend a lot of his time trying to help Souji keep order, though he might still lose his temper here and there, and as the event wears on, his patience starts running out: he's anxious, agitated, nervous about what's out there and restless from having been cooped up on one place for too long, something he'll try to curb by hunkering down in one of the booths to crochet for varying stretches of time. Anyone need a scarf in the middle of April?

Frisk and the Undertales coming at u with a new hit single in june (but also open)

closed to Chara And The Munsters
For once, Frisk has nothing to say to Chara in terms of their way of dealing with the problem. These things, they quickly learned, cannot be reasoned with. There's no solution except flee or FIGHT, and even if Chara might be predisposed to take the latter, Frisk had an inkling that this wouldn't be tenable as a long-term solution.

So Souji's invitation to a safe space was too much to resist, for Frisk anyway. They're not much help in a fight, so they'd headed right for the diner as soon as Souji broadcasted to the network.

They've just made it inside when Frisk has a horrible thought.

"Do you...do you think the cats are okay?"
open!
Frisk is fretting about the cats. Sans teleported 400 of them (literally) into their room, unaware of how completely everything would plunge into chaos in a matter of days. They've managed to locate a single cat in the meantime, but they've no idea if it's one of the unfortunate victims of Sans's prank or if it's one of the hundreds of others about the mansion.

Currently, they're trying to distract themselves from the awful noises coming from outside by scratching it behind its ears and trying to calm it down as best as they can. The poor thing's fur is standing on end. It's clearly terrified.

Chara had been determined to get here in one piece; they had immersed themselves fully and completely in the LOVE they had, psyched themselves up for kill or be killed, been steeled for drawing blood.

That sort of rush is one that's easier to switch on than off. There's still a lingering flatness to their stare when they arrive, and at first, Frisk's uneasy question thuds right off them, almost entirely unheard.

"Don't care," the answer comes, absent and automatic, before they actually realize that they've been asked something. They shake their head, blink, try again.

"...What about them?"

"They could be in danger!" Frisk glances back over their shoulder worriedly, chewing on their lip. Not a cat in sight. Nothing in sight but empty hallways and a diner full of people that they're trying not to mentally call refugees, because that's what it feels like right now.

"What if they get...infected, or something?"
determinedest: (* This doesn't strike you as accurate.)

The cat, a scrawny black-and-white thing, immediately settles upon the food hungrily. Frisk brightens up when they see Souji, their smile strained but thankful.

"Not right now. I guess I'm just worried. There were a lot of these all over the mansion, and they might be in trouble." Cats might be adept at taking care of themselves, but these are actual zombies they're talking about. They stroke the cat's fur gently with one hand. "Thanks."

LOVE really is a boon, sometimes. What should be a stab of horror at their own negligence is only a muted little tap, at best. ...Feels smarter to not let the concern in. Nothing they can do about it now.

"They're from Wonderland. They're probably immune to events." Chara shrugs, takes Frisk's sleeve, tugs them along to a booth. Booths are soft enough to sleep in. Got to stake one out as theirs.

"Probably have the common sense to run away from hostile groaning things, anyway. They're independent."
determinedest: (* The whole world is ending.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-04-16 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"If you say so..."

Frisk lets Chara take the lead. They're more resourceful in this instance, anyway, and Frisk is too fretful to be of much use. They slide into the booth, put their head in their hands. They still have their phone, which they pull out to check in case anyone else put up any warnings.

"I hope everyone else is all right."
fulllifeconsequences: (* No one will ever love them)

[personal profile] fulllifeconsequences 2016-04-16 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, Chara hates this. They're not... the biggest fan of humanity (or certain monsters who might be showing up), and the longer they spend cooped up with a bunch of humans, the more shot their nerves feel. They're irritable, they think they hate everyone in this diner right now, they can't sleep.

But this guy. This guy maybe has the right idea. Something to keep your hands busy, something that lets you tune everyone else out and just... focus. Maybe that helps.

So Chara fishes some things out of their hastily-packed cupcake backpack, and drops themselves, unannounced and uninvited, across from Kanji. Sets a ball of orange yarn down, grabs their needles, starts casting on.

"What are you making?"
fulllifeconsequences: (Must be some kind of abstinence)

"They're fine," Chara announces dully. They sink into the booth next to Frisk, but make no effort to touch them. A hand on the shoulder doesn't seem very reassuring at all, and they're still... still not totally here? Still running on autopilot? They aren't really thinking about what they're saying. It sort of feels like they're not even the one saying it. They halfway chalk it up to Frisk doing the talking instead, before they realize how stupid that sounds. They're literally sitting next to Frisk, talking to them.

Chara's hand rises to their throat, finds the locket. They're here, sitting next to Frisk, talking to them.

"Nothing's stopping you from telling them to come here," they add. "Stop worrying and use your head."
determinedest: (* This doesn't strike you as accurate.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-04-16 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"I contacted Sans. He just...hasn't replied yet."

This is just so, so - so messed up. Chara's acting like they've shut down, completely distant and detached. That worked well enough when they were trying to get here, but now that they're here, it's like talking to a robot. A robot with a very similar face.

"They're monsters, though, right? Maybe - maybe that makes them immune, or something!"

"Haven't been immune to any other events so far," Chara answers, eyes fixed on nothing in particular. They count the beats. Count to four. Count to nine. Doesn't matter how you count. Focus on the feeling of warmth and a beating pulse in their hand.

Silence stretches for a moment too long. It takes a while to register what they said, acknowledge they said it, recall that it... probably isn't helping.

Focus. They had made the decision to try, so they have to try. Helping, not harming.

"They're... resourceful. They're strong enough to kill us, so they can kill zombies. They've got magic."
determinedest: (* Seems talking won't do any more good.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-04-16 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
So much for optimism. Frisk soon deflates, sinking back to slump in the booth with their head bowed in defeat.

* Stay determined.

They glance back up at Chara. Flat gaze, distant stare, like they're somewhere else entirely.

"...are you okay?"
fulllifeconsequences: (* Knows best for you.)

[personal profile] fulllifeconsequences 2016-04-16 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Keep counting. Focus on beats. Your name is Chara. You live in New Home. ...No, you live in Room 12. Big house. Wonderland. You can hear Frisk because they're real, you can feel this because you're real, all of this is really happening.

Haha. A zombie invasion is really happening. What a world, huh?

They swivel their head to look at Frisk. Look a little too hard, maybe, really really try to make themselves focus on their limp, unhappy posture.

"I'm fine," they announce. Getting grounded again. They're here. It's okay. "I just... thought we might have to fight our way here. Got... psyched up? Got... you know. Tuned out. LOVE." Another shake of their head.

"...Didn't I tell you to stop worrying? There's no point being miserable over something you can't help."
determinedest: (* And with that power...)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-04-16 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do those give you LOVE?" Frisk's brow darkens apprehensively. They're not sure they want to give Chara any more opportunities for EXP if they can help it. LV 8 saw them going toe to toe with one another. Any higher and Chara might be beyond their reach entirely.

"They're not...they're not alive," they say uncertainly, but they don't know the rules for LOVE or EXP in Wonderland. Chara's good at cutting through swaths of undead monstrosities, but if it means it comes at the expense of their humanity, Frisk isn't sure they want that to be their go-to solution.

They draw their knees up onto the seat and hug them. They're...they're scared. Really, really scared. There's no ACT menu to pull up if they get cornered.
determinedest: (* Seems talking won't do any more good.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-04-16 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"I hope so." Their smile fades by increments as they watch the cat eat, oblivious to the danger. "A friend of ours was playing a prank on us. We ended up with hundreds of them in our room before everything...went wrong."

Before a horde of undead things showed up to wreak havoc and chase Chara and Frisk from the safety of their room.

Again with the looking too hard, again with taking a second or two too long to answer. But... they're anchored. They're looking. They're... thinking. They don't really know what to do about fear, but it's obvious Frisk is scared. Why wouldn't they be? They define themselves by their mercy, but there's no flirting or complimenting or unhugging zombies into submission.

"It didn't change. Still me. Still LV 8," they announce quietly. "Just... got a little spaced out."

They start to raise a hand, clumsily, uncertainly. Change their mind. Drop it. Sort of... just... lean against Frisk, they guess, instead. Plenty of room for them to scoot away, if it's bad or weird. Can't hurt them if it's just leaning.

"We'll be safe here. Everyone'll show up here, and we can just wait it out. You can help with cooking or making sure everyone has a place to sleep or... just. I dunno. Cheering everyone up. It's gonna work out."
determinedest: (* It wasn't for a very happy reason.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-04-16 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Lots of others," they say grimly. "Two skeletons, someone who looks kind of like a fish, and a yellow lizard sort of monster? I haven't seen them since this all started, though."

And a quick look around the diner reveals nothing. They tend to stand out, after all.

"What about you? Is everyone you know safe?"
determinedest: (* This doesn't strike you as accurate.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-04-16 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're sure?" It sounds so ridiculous in that thin, wavering tone of theirs. What good is determination against a thick crowd of things that want nothing more than to eat them?

But the contact is reassuring, calming even, and Frisk's rapidly-thumping heart slows. A deep breath in. Another out. It'll be all right.

"Do you think maybe we should go out and...and help them?"
determinedest: (* Seems talking won't do any more good.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-04-16 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems people have been gravitating towards this place as a safehouse after all. Frisk doesn't recognize the man Souji indicates, but maybe he's new.

"I hope so." They manage a brief smile, but their expression soon becomes worried and nervous again. "I keep thinking I should go out and help them, but...but that's how people get bitten, right?"

They're not familiar with how it usually goes in zombie movies. They've never seen any.

"Or worse."
fulllifeconsequences: (I know I'd disappoint somehow)

[personal profile] fulllifeconsequences 2016-04-16 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Help them how, Frisk?" They try a smile, though they sort of think maybe it isn't going to help. "Gonna sic me on the zombies like an attack dog on a leash?"

...Yeah. Not helping. Definitely not helping.

"Focus on what you can do here. Going in and out more than is necessary will just increase the chances of the infection finding its way into here. This won't last forever, so it is far wiser to wait it out than to play the hero."
